"But mooooooom!"

| | | So, I was wandering through a cow pasture, and my friend and I had mostly been left alone by the docile cows, so we weren't too concerned about them being all around us. Suddenly, we heard a menacing grunt, and when we turned to look, we saw a big bull staring right at us with territorial aggression in his eyes. I asked my friend, "Can you outrun a bull?" He said, "No, but I can outrun you." I knew he was right. We had collectively messed with the bull, and if we ran, I was going to get the horns for both of us. I maintained eye contact with the bull as I slowly took a big step backward...into a nest of yellow jackets. Any attempt to maintain composure vanished as I flailed about madly, trying to get out of the stinging swarm. My friend, thinking quickly, started hitting me with a stick in order to get rid of the ones that were already on me that I couldn't reach myself. When the yellow jacket threat was resolved, we were like, "Oh yeah, bull," but mercifully, the cows had all gone somewhere else while I was being all noisy and distracted. This was also the day I learned that applying a compress of wet tobacco is really good for soothing stings.

| | | Posted by ZerohasbeenDivided I'm curious as to what others have experienced out there when it comes to animals, more specifically the scary/dangerous encounters. Personally I went into a building with two friends and at first spooked a bird, nbd, I can handle a bird. Even got a cool picture of it. https://s29.postimg.org/oj78drphv/DSC01166.jpg[/eimg] Continued exploring the house as you do, oogling and taking pictures of everything. Notice a lot of animal feces on the stairs, for whatever reason I think nothing of it, despite the sheer large amount of it. https://s29.postimg.org/ev0uznq8j/DSC01180.jpg[/eimg] For some slight context we had been hearing noises like kids coming, and police sirens, both turned out to be "nothing" so we continued the exploration. Continuing upstairs, slowly, reach the attic and stop. We all collectively realize that they noises we had heard were not kids, or police, but coyotes. Then we hear something literally climb into the bottom floor. I was terrified. Obviously at that point we decide it's time to leave, and me being the largest of the group of course I have to go first. I vividly remember my friend asking me if I had my knife and me replying with "That won't help". So we ended up making it out and everything was good but I will never forget it. I happened to be recording and you can hear the sound of them crawling in. If that's something you guys would want to hear hit me up. We also realized that the coyotes were probably living in the attic that we were about to enter, because of the feces on the stairs. Close one. Now, what's your story?

| That sounds like a really bad day! I've been attacked by bees and barely survived (I was very young). You're lucky you had such a good friend with you. Had I been alone, I definitely would not have survived.

My wife totaled a car last year when she hit a deer on the highway. She made it out okay. Had it been a moose, she'd probably be dead as we speak.
| She was lucky. Many people don't realize how unpredictable, fast, agile and dangerous these grazers can be. They can broadside you too. I came within 2 feet of getting a face full of deer going down the road at 35 mph about 10 years ago. It came out of a hedge row and I could hear it's hooves sliding on the pavement and see it coming at me in the corner of eye. It's hooves caught traction at the last second and it disappeared back into the hedgerow. I had one broadside my truck about 30 years ago; I braked for the first two but tail end Charlie ran right into me. This is pretty common; the deer in the back tend to be the more inept, poor vision etc of the herd. If you see one, expect more. When they are running it gets dicey. I hate deer; rats with long legs.
| Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in. |
