| | | A quick house explore < on 4/17/2017 4:19 PM > | Reply with Quote
| | | So, I had to run an errand the other day in an area not far from my house on a road I've never driven and came across a home that I was sure looked empty (just based on the flash of it i saw driving past it). I was in a hurry and didn't circle back to check it out better, but made a mental note to google map it and see what I could figure out. Based on what I saw looking on google, it looked different than what i remembered...fully lived in and cared for. Of course, Google is way behind on things...so I decided to drive back out the next day with my usual exploring buddies (my mom and sister and nephew) while my wife was doing birthday stuff and my toddlers were occupied for a few hours. What I found when I got there was a once lovely home just beat all to hell. After doing some digging after the explore, it turns out that it's got a demolition permit filed (as of March of this year) and the whole area around it will soon be yet another high density housing development. There are a couple of more houses in the proposed development zone, as well. I'm hoping I can get back out there again and see if those are ripe to explore, too. Not holding my breath, though...these cities here are pretty quick to demolish. In any event here are a few pics of the place I took as i went through. It was a quick explore (the house was over 4000 square feet, according to tax records, and i was only there about an hour) and i'm not 100% happy with these shots...i can tell they were rushed. But, i'll put a couple up so you can see what I saw. This place was more than wide-open to explore, for the record. We had zero hassle and almost zero risk in checking it out. First up, there's the entry to the place: the house had some nice views of the land around it (about 20 acres):
r it also had a sauna in the master bathroom that led out to their pool. The room was dark, but I could make out a boot print on the door leading outside because some jerk was probably trying to kick it down:
Kitchen:
Laundry room with built-in ironing board. fancy...
There were still tons of personal possessions in the place as well. One closet had several trash-bags full of magazines spilling out:
The media room:
The view from the pool looking back up at the house:
an obligatory black and white shot from the third floor looking out front:
the former living room:
a shed out back stripped down to almost bare bones:
all in all a worthwhile explore for a place that probably won't be there by the end of summer.

| | | Posted by AtticAddict Same here. I think it's harder for people like us--who appreciate the beauty of a place going through the abandonment process as nature intended--to see stuff like this. My guess would be that bored, rich kids from around the neighborhood did most of the damage. Very curious about what goes on in cabin zero....
| You know, AtticAddict...if your current city is the same listed on your profile, this home is directly in your area. Smack dab in one of the busiest parts of it, in fact. If you're ever interested in seeing what's there, just shoot me a PM and i'll gladly share the address. I don't think i'll be able to get back over there anytime soon, unfortunately. And, yes, it is tough to just see people tear down something for grins instead of letting nature take it's course. I think that's why i hate seeing old places get demolished (especially perfectly good buildings, which happens a lot here in my town). It's kind of like: "who are you to decide this should come down now without trying to oat least preserve some parts of it?"
