Posted by Dee Ashley I think there's some unique issues to photographing this place that I don't feel like speculating on because I'm tired and this would require critical thinking, etc., but it was definitely a formidable challenge to come up with photos that I was happy with. Despite my dissatisfaction with my photography that night,

I have a few theories/reasons as to why this place is so hard to photograph.
1. There's no natural light (I see in thus thread that that isn't necessarily the case anymore) and we usually rely on photographing with the natural light "leaks". This place requires that you provide ALL of your own lighting.
2. The layout is strange. There's no real good way to explain the layout of this building, it's a square but it's painfully hard to navigate still. I know more than one person on more than one occasion that has struggled to find the room they wanted pics of or even to find the exit. This layout doesn't help draw the eye into anything either. No real good hallways with doorways you can see through.
3. There's not much in the way of "decay", the place just looks like your weird uncle died and left a bunch of shit. Strange. Dusty. Amusing stuff. But none of it is older than about 20 years or so and none of it looks decayed. It's just neat dusty junk.
I could name more but they'd be subtopics of those 3 main points I think. All of my opinions on this are based on what I saw years ago and why I had trouble photographing it myself.
This place also used to just be so overwhelmingly cool that you just forgot to take pics while you were checking shit out.
