About 2 weeks ago I met up with
Bonnie&Clyde to go explorin' we found some really cool stuff but had a huge "oh shit" moment. We met up in beautiful Marin County one weekend and I had shown them an abandoned neighborhood I found and on our way back to the busier area, we pulled over to check out this lot I spotted with what looked like abandoned cars.
Pulling over and getting out, we found a hole in the fence and climbed through bushes of thorns to find a bunch of old cars worth a lot and stuff still inside of them. All the stickers on the license plates were from the 80s and earlier, some were either locked or rusted shut and others we were able to open and peer in. One car even had old books, letters, trophies, and clothes like someone had just left and come back but everything was covered in dust and dead bugs.
We were about to head out when my friend, Gabrielle, pointed out a wooden bridge hanging over a creek that attached to the yard we were in. We went to check it out and discovered that there was this old house. Clyde and Gabrielle crossed the bridge to check it out first and found the water was running and turned back, but Bonnie and I felt like we should double check since 1. the bridge was completely falling apart and seemed as though it was the only way to and from the house and 2. It looked severely beet up and rotting away that there could be a good chance it was abandoned.
While Clyde and Gabrielle waited on the other side of the creek, Bonnie and I went over to the house and tried the door we presumed was the back door. Locked. We smelt like something was rotting and moved around the house and found sliding glass doors. The handle was broken and all the windows were covered with curtains that were moldy, wet, and had dead bugs all over them. We tried the door to find it locked and circled around again to the front where there were windows to see if we could have any luck there.
Bonnie looked up trying to see if she could spot anything and laughed, mentioning how a passing car made it look like there was a reflection in the window. She froze and told me to run, there was someone in there: a really angry old lady. We ran as fast as we could around the house and to the bridge. Bonnie crossed before me and I was trying to stick to the side and be safe but Bonnie rushed me and my leg went through the wood. I made it to the other side with only a few scratches and we hopped in our cars and got out of there so quickly we would have made Usain Bolt proud.
In the end the cars were really cool and we have a good laugh about the house, but no one else saw the old lady so we don't know if Bonnie was just trippin' or if we really did disturb some old lady's house. Or maybe a ghost. It was just a super weird situation and also a great premise for a conversation starter when making new friends.
