I was exploring a storm drain in the San Francisco Bay Area last week for the first time (see my original post:
http://www.uer.ca/...rrpage=4&pp#post75), and found a bag with some $20 bills next to it. I didn't take it or looked inside the pockets at first, because I thought it might belong to a homeless person, so I decided to leave it and come back in a few days to see if it is still unclaimed.
Today I came back to visit again, and the bag was still there intact. So I decided to look inside the pockets, and I found way more than I expected: a phone without a sim card, $400 in cash and several credit cards!
Another bag with clean folded clothes was also present not far from the first one.
I really wondered who left that here. A runaway teen? A homeless guy? Is he still alive?
When I left the drain, I googled the name on the credit cards, and discovered that the guy was arrested for robbery just 2 days before I found his bag.
http://www.examine...oplifting-incidentApparently, he stole way more money than I found, so I believe he took the rest of the cash with him.
I still don't know what to do with that. All the leftover bills are stained with a red ink that indicates that they have been stolen, so they are pretty much unusable. And I don't think the police will benefit much from this information now that they have found the guy. I think I will just put everything back inside the bag at the next occasion...
Anyway, that was an unusual and unexpected discovery.
