problem is time and distance.
are you looking for a multi-day thing ?
when i've hit alabama in the past...
i've had to leave atlanta around 6am...
then leave alabama around 4pm.
that's 10 hours minus 4 hours of travel time.
leaving 6 hours 
it really sucks when you don't know anything out there
or are looking for new stuff
and you spend 2 or 3 months doing nothing except driving back and forth

I'm usually the driver for our out of town trips to save time and gas for those of us that go. So, those travel hours can be spent napping. Or rocking out. Or flashing other drivers. The drive's not that bad, and would you rather sit here in Atlanta a few more years or see new things?
PS: We have drinks and snacks. You know you want to.
