LEO Explorers of UER how does your job effect your exploring? < on 11/17/2013 11:08 PM >
I know we have at least a couple UE friendly LEOs here. How does your job effect your exploring? Is it a hindrance? Can it get you off the hook? Maybe more in trouble? If you got busted exploring would you tell the officer you're a fellow LEO or keep that on the DL? What would happen if/when your employer found out? Posted by Send4Help: ITS EIGHT FUCKING THIRTY!!

I actually work in a civilian position (IT) at a regulatory/law enforcement agency. They have a very low tolerance for people getting in trouble with the law. I might not lose my job the first time, but there would be zero tolerance beyond that.
I know a lot of the officers and agents keep their drivers license in their badge holder so it's obvious that they are law enforcement if they get pulled over. I hear it works pretty well in most cases. Us administrative types don't have a badge so that's a non starter for us.
I'm also a licensed motorcycle riding instructor and there are restrictions with regard to the number of points on my drivers license, DUIs, and/or other arrests. I don't want to jeopardize that part of my life over something dumb.
For me there's a whole lot of exposure if I were to have a run-in with law enforcement. I would guess that I play it more conservative than most members of this forum just because of my personal situation.

I would think that the threat to the public good or law and order that comes from trespassing is so benign that simply being a cop is enough to convince people you have no bad intentions or anything. The sign said "Anybody caught trespassin will be shot on sight" So I jumped on the fence and I yelled at the house, "Hey! What gives you the right?" http://www.flickr.com/photos/evman/

Obviously we don't have a problem with explorers who have jobs in law enforcement.
I'm always curious about this topic too, and especially about some of the other consequences other than being caught trespassing.
-On that note, I could imagine being caught trespassing on private property as a police officer could be even worse; without the correct legal procedure it would probably be worse. Would you rather have some unemployed kid sneaking around your old property, or a cop?
-What are the rules for what to do when you hear about someone's intention to commit a crime? Couldn't you get in trouble for knowing someone was going to explore something and not turn them in?
-Is it easier talking with explorers outside your jurisdiction for this reason? For instance, someone exploring in France probably poses less of a threat to your job than someone in your own backyard.

Sure, if they're questioning you, it's always a bad idea to offer too much information. I handed a cop my cell phone once to show him a map and he instantly went through my text messages.
On the other hand, talking with cops socially and figuring out how they work and their expectations is obviously a good idea.

Most cops are idiots, in my experience. But some are good. And the best e I've ever had came from an RCMP officer. (close friend of mine) haha He's one of the good ones. ;) "Explore thyself." ~ Henry David Thoreau

Well I'm not a LEO but I work in a county jail. As far as exploring goes that came before my job. However because I have that job and because the job market sucks so much around here I go the extra mile to get permission from the owners before I do any exploring. There is a rush though when you explore a place and might get in trouble. Just saying. As far as tattling on other people that's not my job. My job is to take care of the people while they are waiting for court if that makes sense. And after 4 years of working in the jail I have yet to see anyone get arrested for UE. Our LEO's around here are somewhat understanding. If I got caught trespassing I'd probably get fired because they expect us to hold a higher standard of ethics. Just hope this doesn't get me kicked off here because this place is amazing.
Nothing good comes out of talking to the police. Ever.
I was pretty straight, as were the others with me when we were busted trespassing, with backpacks of beer, some knives, a grill, and a revolver. The cops were pretty straight right back and let us go. I'd say that went better than it would have it we had been noncompliant fuckbags, since we would have probably ended up being put in bracelets and given a free ride.

I have friends and relatives who are LEO's. I've also shot guns with them drunk on Wild Turkey and received gifts from the evidence locker too. I've had beers with them at Byberry and the one who rolled his own tobacco cigs let me use his antique rolling machine and rice-papers for a doob of my own. Cops are just folks with a semi-shitty job trying not to get shot or stabbed by some idiotic asshole and I just stay out of their hair while they're on the clock. They don't need to waste their time on my victimless shenanigans. I don't steal, swindle or commit arrestable atrocities so we're good. "Are you happy now with all the choices you've made?" "Are there times in life when you know you should've stayed?" "Will you compromise and then realize the price is too much to pay?"
