| | Meeting with UER people < on 7/22/2013 10:12 AM >
| | | Hi there ! Not sure if I missed something, but is there a right place to organize meetings with other uer folks? Should I create a new "Event", or should I simply announce on UE main? Just to give you an idea, with a friend we're going to travel for several days in Paris and all around Belgium (for UE purpose obviously ^^). So If I want to meet with someone during the week (preferably a FM or a known member/admin), what's the best way? Thx for your help, again :$ !

| | | You're trying to set up a meet for Europe? You'll probably be disappointed with the results. If you're looking for people to explore with, the best I can recommend is do a search for users from those areas, see if anyone's active, and message them asking if they'd like to meet up. As far as organising meets go, it makes a lot more sense that someone who lives in the city puts it on, for numerous reasons.

Europe isnt where I usually explore, but at least for the USA a PM to a member in your area that you find interesting usually can do it. Attach some of your ORIGINAL work, write a polite message, and meet somewhere for lunch in advance. Dont ask for locations and just be as nice as you would someone to be to you. If someone sends that to me, I usually would accept.

This isnt a requirement, but is a big help. However, if you do meet with a FM we have the option of submitting a review of your account. We can "recommend" you to get a FM if you are a cool person, or we can "strike" your account which would put you under further review. Just remember meeting one of us isnt the end-all, but you will gain some credit if you have a few people behind you. Plus, we FM's are cool people... Usually ;) [last edit 7/29/2013 2:17 AM by Send4Help - edited 1 times]

| | | I don't think FM's on the whole are much different from basic members, they've just gone an extra step, and they can play the game. NOTHING more. They aren't necessarily "better" explorers, by any means. You can be better at social aspects and gain FM without exploring nearly as much as people who are still basic members. I think if there are few other mods/FM's/members in your area, go and check out your nearby locations, take some pictures, research some history, put up some threads on those places. Get active on the forum, see IF there's people near you. Go to this link: http://www.uer.ca/...ersearch.asp?fid=1 Then go to the "search by Location" box, and put in your location. You can be a little less vague or try to use locations NEAR you and see what you get as well. That will give you a list of names of people who may be near you. Then you cna use the UER Private Message system to send them notices, or even emails, that you are nearby and what kind of places maybe you explore and what your interests are, and see if they want to get together with you.
You could TRY creating an event in your area, and people who're located nearby will be notified.
Ahhhhh, after searching "paris" "paris, france" "france" and "belgium", I see what you're saying. I'm going to PM you, I have a friend in that area, and I will check and see if he knows anyone you might be able to go exploring with.
Give a person a match and they'll be warm for a minute, but light them on fire and they'll be warm for the rest of their life. =) |

| | | Hey ! Thank you very much for all these tips ! So I went through the search engine and contacted one person that is still active and in the region I'll be in couple weeks. (couple persons are still active in Paris, same for Belgium... not a lot here!) I will wait before creating an Event as our planning isn't fixed yet. But maybe once we know exactly the date/hours, I'll create one for Paris or Bruxelles. Anyway that would be awesome if you know someone in Paris that would be ok meeting us (my friend and me both speak french, which could also help) @Send4Help so you're saying that in general, meetings are done as lunch instead of an exploration ? -> That's maybe what I did wrong when asking in my messages

Nope, I was just suggesting offering to go to a lunch before an explore. A lot of people are wary about meeting a brand new person at a location. Let them feel ya out first if you are new to the UERz then head out and see some stuff. [last edit 7/29/2013 4:04 PM by Send4Help - edited 1 times]

You might even let them feel you up first, so they can get comfortable with you.
