Must not have had enough apples.
I forgot to post about the beavers Crypton and I saw. I've seen owls, beavers, snakes, and large, large fish. Having the snake pursue me out of a drain was the most worrying. The beavers were the most surprising. The pack of deer in the dark was the scariest. I haven't yet met any predators while exploring.

Been there many times. They still have that Mexican restaurant/buffet at the old hotel on base? But for my "wildlife" experience, besides a few rattlesnakes and coyotes, this one was the funniest. I didn't know this was down in this basement until I uploaded the photos that evening. http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5331/6905759878_78a34ba6bc.jpg

You can tell what animal it is by the eye color. Green = cat orange = raccoon I'm told that red is alligator I think dogs are yellow? But so are frogs. Frog eyes are closer together.

Gators are red Dogs are a greenish Yellow depending and at distance can be confused with cats. I have seen a more red tint to coons at time Wild Boar are yellow Spiders... they look like little crystal water drops of water.

Thanks for the dog update. For what it's worth, cats tend to freeze when lit, while dogs keep prowling. That behavioral difference helps me. I forgot about spiders...sometimes they sparkle rainbow colors at me. Once I was going to go into a 1.5m high drain, but the roof was all a-glitter when I shone my light in. I returned in winter when they were all dead.

| | | Great info on the eye colours. Huh!? In one big day of exploring last summer we had a run in with bee's, birds, and a snake - none of which were happy at all. On the weekend there was a racoon that was hanging out. It just wandered away.

That is always fun! I was attacked by yellow jackets last summer while out hiking/exploring an old trail I found on Google Earth. That shit SUCKED. Was stung 15-30 times. Little bastards just don't quit!

| | | I love discovering wildlife reclaiming all those beautiful old buildings we have left behind. Its one of the reasons I keep going out looking for those places in an advanced state of decomposition, life thrives even in decay. Somewhere out there is a thread called Nature Wins, I think its time to dig that one up as well. The thing about wildlife is by the time you see them, they've already long spotted you. They rarely sit still long enough for you to get the tripod out set up and frame the perfect shot. Buildings sit still, with them you just gotta spray an pray. So, please forgive the poor quality shots.....
1 Radioactive reindeer at Gov Spiders
2 Brooding buzzard also at Spiders, they nest in the reactor core and become very moody when you climb around in there.
3 Mutated frogs in the condenser pit room.
4 SPECTRE Fox making his rounds along the pipes in the hallway ceiling at a mental hospital in Ga shaped like an "H"
5 He moved along those pipes faster than I could run and disappeared somewhere above the operating room on the top floor.
6 A pair of nesting vultures at the Prison Farm in Atlanta. For such ugly birds they were incredibly gentle with each other.
7 I once encountered a starving dingo guarding the entrance to textile mill in Chattanooga TN while the rest of the pack waited inside in the darkness
8 A very peaceful deer found at the abandoned farmstead near Crawfordville GA
9 And once I caught this huge lizard
I just feel fortunate to see what I've seen. Enjoy!
