| | Yorktown Memorial Hospital < on 10/15/2011 1:29 AM >
| | | Another exploration/ghost hunting excursion this time in Yorktown Texas. Great old building built in the 50's, shut down in the 80's. It reopened temporarily in the early 90's as a rehab unit, but quickly closed its doors for good. Traveled down and met with the caretaker Mike who gave us a tour of the place and gave us a chance to roam around by ourselves at night. As you might also see from the pictures the town seem to use the place as a major storage unit from holding local police records to city electrical equipment etc. We walked into the room that had the towns original jail cell reconstructed in the basement with a maniquin sitting in it. Armed with only a flash light I have to admit the set up caught me completely off guard. 1.

Yeah, and not really sure as to why a hospital would have one, there was actually two of them.

| | | It looks like one of the more rare varieties of Civil Defense Geiger counters from the 50's. Hence the Fallout Shelter sign. Interesting place.

Sometimes the older hospitals used them to make checks on their machines that used radio isotopes for checking for leakage. I think they have built in equipment now in these machines that check it for them much safer now. The only thing I saw, was your flash did affect your shots a lot. Here are a couple of suggestions for that, set your camera on background lighting, the flash will fire at the end of you shutter time, reducing the flash glare and making the light more even though your shots. Second would be to use a defuser on your flash, I usually use a softbox which only cost $11.00 for.

Yeah, I wasnt too pleased with my shots because of the flash, some were taken from my cell phone and others were taken from a low end camera, but I mainly wanted to capture certain points of the hospital. Starting to consider getting a little better quality camera so I have more options.

Hey NP. They make the defusers for the P&S's also. Was just trying to offer a little help there.
