| | | I heard about this place about 4 years ago from a friend of a friend. I need to go back to see if they are still there. At least one is a Vietnam Vet. Be nice if one or two could make it to a museum instead of rotting away...

Be happy to Captain. I need to drive up there to see if they are still where I saw them last. Hopefully they haven't been scrapped or moved. You don't mind a little drive do you?

There were a zillion Hueys that were made. Unfortunately many hangar queens are in much better shape than those. Unless there's something special about that particular bird. Still a fun find though.
Your security measures were inadequate. How unfortunate for you. |

That's very true. Bell did make over 16,000 of them. I know you can't save them all but I just hate to see these once proud birds rotting away like this...

Well, you can buy a ride in the Houston-based Collings Foundation short-bodied UH-1E Huey. It was about the best $100 I ever spent. They were at the Cavanaugh Flight Museum in Addison a few years ago where I got my ride. Can't help with the any M-60 trigger time though Flying in the Huey made me feel just a little part of what my dad experienced in Vietnam. That was priceless.

| | | I've taken a ride in that very Huey, and with that same pilot. LOL. They come around this area every year. They usually make the trip from the Dallas area to the Houston area and stops in between sometime in March or April. It's been that same schedule for several years now. I know the last couple of years in the Houston area they have been at Hooks, but like MIM-14 said, the Huey is based down there some where. I'm not sure if they give rides at other times, but I'm sure they do. Just google Collings Foundation. All the details and schedules are there.

Ha, that's pretty cool Raticus that we've been on the same bird with the same pilot The Huey and other Collings birds are based at Ellington Field. They give rides all the time around Texas, like you said just google them and you can find their schedule. It's well worth it. Now if I had a spare few thousand $$$, I'd get a ride in their F-4...!

| | | please shoot me a message with at least a clue to the location. When I was in the 'Stan and Colombia I rode in a lot of hueys and both my parents are Viet Nam vets. you could say I have a bit of a familial connection to the bell 204/UH-1 family of helicopters. They arent anywhere as smooth or fast or new as a UH-60...but they are so much cooler. I have a lot of memories of getting from one place to another in those damned things.
