| | | Tell me about it – holding to the motto is a real pain sometimes, as is all temptation. Actually, a buddy went down a week later… I asked him to get the Jeep for me (I’m a dirtball sometimes), but he didn’t have time, so my honor (outwardly) is still intact. If I knew who the owner was, I’d had made an offer on the bumper car; there was one in real good shape.

| | | My niece lives in Rodanthe and rents out dune buggies. If you do go, Dave, you also need to check out the Coast Guard Station at Oregon Inlet.

That’s too cool… I stopped by there – her Rottie is “very friendly” – she said she’s usually not like that with strangers (I have a way like that with the ladies – unfortunately, just not the human ones). Are you talking about the current life guard station & museum, or the abandoned one? After looking at all the satellite photos, I was really disappointed when we got there… don’t know how much of my stuff you looked at (maybe u know) but my passenger tire is on what’s left of the demoed portion of the old one, it’s currently being rebuilt. Anybody know if there’s anything left down there of civil war forts? (all we could find were plaques – and I can’t scuba)

| | | Dang, wish I knew you were down, I also love off-roading and live in Manteo. As far as the Coast Guard building, not much old building left, its all been remolded. There isn't much at all of old buildings in the area, the land is too valuable. But there are two locations that are very interesting. There are two Ghost towns in the area, one is all grown up and not much buildings left, the other looks like an old village and it kept up. I am speaking of Buffalo City, NC as the first one and Portsmouth Island as the second. You can Google those and see some info on them, it requires a boat to get to Portsmouth Island from Ocrocoke, or a small ferry ride (private) and then drive a ways from the south end. There are camping options on the island i think, something to look into.

I’ll remember that if we go down again. Long drive, though. We’re thinking Cape May, NY, next time. UrbEx opportunities there too! That photo looks familiar!?

Damn. Looks nice, though. When I was there in 2005, the sand had drifted so high the 8' fence was totally covered.
