| | | Anyone done these hotels? < on 11/30/2010 1:33 AM >
| | | Hey guys, I was driving to a football game up past Dayton on Saturday and saw a couple of clearly abandoned hotels about 10 miles north of Dayton. There is the Dayton Executive Hotel (VERY visible from the interstate) which seems to have closed around 2007, and a Rodeway Inn about 3 miles ahead, hidden in some underbrush on the right side. Has anyone explored these, especially the DEH?
Oh good, my slow clap processor made it into this thing. |

| | | Dayton Executive, is in the database, but it's set so that only full members can see it.
The personal responsibility train left the station years ago, and you gave it the finger as you watched it leave. |

| | | I think Ive seen at least one of these on the way to the airport. Looks like it would a pretty cool place to check out. I dont know much about Dayton and how safe it is in that area. But as long as its daytime i'm sure its fine.

| | | Been to both. At the time, the DEH was in near pristine condition, except for a flooded basement. It literally looked like they just kicked everyone out one day and locked the doors. Which is actually what happened. The Rodeway Inn was pretty tore up, on the other hand. It had a small strip club inside, so I can at least (proudly?) say I've explored a strip club. All in all, both are worth checking out.

Hmm. The DEH doesn't look too hard to enter, but it also looks pretty run-down. It's good to know that there are still some hotels out there in (relatively) good shape. I'll have to check it out next time I'm up that way. As for the strip club in Rodeway, I'm honestly not surprised a bit.

Yeah I think I remember seeing something inside it that said Howard Johnson.

| | | I used to stay in the DEH; almost every year for a decade or more when attending an annual event at Hara Arena. The place was not so nice; I typically ended up with a room on the first floor, in the north wing, just off the lobby - because my friend that was always with me requested a handicap room and I guess that's the area where the gimp rooms were. The place was a rathole; the rooms and hallways smelled of decades-old cig smoke mixed with musty water-damage smell. Eau De Crap. I think the newer hotels that were built on I-75 just north of DEH and Rodeway put the hurt on the older properties to the point they just gave up.

Oh, so it smelled the same open as it did after a year of being abandoned. That's...disturbing. Here's one of my favorite memories of the DEH:
Yes, that is someone (not me) surfing on a freezer door in the flooded basement. [last edit 1/3/2011 9:17 PM by WarBird69 - edited 1 times]

That...is awesome. Can you upload more pics in the Photography section or this section, perhaps? I know it's in the LDB, but I'm not a full member yet. Much appreciated.
