| | Texas's Gold Mine < on 8/25/2010 11:42 PM >
| | | I'm titling this post "Texas's Gold Mine" because I recently went to Corpus Christi from Dallas, and first off there are a fuck ton of abandoned buildings on the way down there. There are a ton off of 35. Below i'm posting some pictures of a couple places we stopped at on the way. Corpus Christi is Texas's Gold Mine for abandonments. There are tons of buildings abandoned for some reason. There is an abandoned Courthouse in downtown corpus. they're currently renovating little parts at a time but most of it is still boarded up and looks awesome. There is a sick abandoned gas station with awesome graffiti art near Portland right off of 35 (the next town over from Corpus Christi). There are a couple buildings in Edroy near oddum on hwy 37. There are a bunch of houses around corpus that are abandoned, and a bunch that look abandoned, but aren't so be careful and make sure they're not inhabited. Down by some of the oil Refineries there are a bunch of old buildings not in use any more. On the way down to corpus we found an abandonment at US-281 and US-84 called "Evant Frozen Food Locker" there is a house, the frozen food locker, a couple shacks in the back, and a creepy-ass room with a huge pile of animal skins just chillin out and stinkin up the place. It was weird. the "37 Short Stop" is currently abandoned but had "4-sale" written on the window, but no number that I could see so we were pretty careful in here as we were afraid there'd be someone there, or that someone in the house that is nearby would yell at us. so we just looked around real quick. On the way back up to Dallas we stopped at the San Antonio abandoned Sanitorium (Bexar County Home for the Aged/Convalescent Sanitorium) to verify how awesome it is. There are a ton of wasps and lizards up in it but below are some pics of the house nearby and the sanitorium itself.

Give a person a match and they'll be warm for a minute, but light them on fire and they'll be warm for the rest of their life. =) |

Really? Some reason? lol You gotta look at it from a non UE perspective... No one wants to be there. ;)
Cool stuff though man, sounds fun. Wish I had gone down there this year, too busy. [last edit 8/26/2010 11:49 AM by KingJalopy - edited 1 times]

| | | Yeah, I'd love to get down that way sometime. These looks like great places - I've been just south of Dallas on 35, and there's tons of abandoned stuff, so I can only imagine what lies further south.

| | | That Corpus Christi courthouse looks pretty sweet. I wish I'd had time to really look around it when I was there in June -- though chances of access would be pretty slim. 1.

| | | When I first got to the frozen food locker I thought it might be active because there was a garbage can in front - like a new green current-use garbage can and a plate on the door that was obviously from the county or the city (I forgot what it said) so I was a little hesitant poking around but eventually I realized it was abandoned. but those dead animal skins still weird me out
