| | | Posted by mikejpc My friend is a no-nonsense kind of guy, so I believe he is a very reliable source, which makes me all that more excited of learning of this unveiling. I have a lot more questions for him. This finding makes me wonder if this is an extension of the line that use to service the merchants at Market Square. If this is true, then one could theorize that the tunnel running into the basement of the rejuvenation project was pushed through some years later then the original section, as Market Square predates the rejuvenation by 30 plus years??
| Indeed. One could theorize. In fact, one already has.

| | | Posted by A. Lien Even if only 1% of the 'stories' are true, then that means certain things do exist or did. The chance of Mike's friend being the only one to have seen this tunnel is very unlikely. There are dozens of workers on that project. I think it's a reasonably safe bet that this information is true. In time, others are likely to confirm or deny what this construction worker has said. A couple of years ago, there was a fire under a downtown street, allegedly caused by a homeless person. This confirmed that there was a tunnel under said street. Some people already knew this
| Indeed. Just as city-workers from the past...retired now, living quietly, etc....have stated that they uncovered tunnel-structures throughout the city during various city works projects. And just as future projects will uncover other tunnel structures blah blah blah...

| | | Sleepy old thread is sleepy, so, it's not like I can do much, but; like possibly in the old hotel posted above, many small shops downtown have basements, and windows in the back. Then behind the windows is another room. Likely past joined spaces that linked many shops under a common covered sidewalk. Historically interesting; but not a real tunnel. For real tunnels go downtown, and cross under one of Rat's finest and avoid the rain before or after enjoying your lunch. That tunnel is no secret, some of them/us locals have been in it. But I heard of another tunnel the other day. A friend with good connections who worked years ago in the Mayors building says there is an escape tunnel for the Mayor so he can escape the media and crowds if needed. It allegedly runs a couple of blocks west of his office, and pops up in or around a local hotel. Hey, you never know.

| | | The link is about as exciting as reading "Ghost Towns of Southern Vancouver Island", and likely has little else to add. My understanding was that the area in which to search for the missing gold mine was somewhere connected to the San Juan river from Renfrew. When I was at the CRD office in Sooke the other day, my little monster was terrorizing the sectional map. I really hadn't realized how much area is in behind us to the other side of the 'hat. I've a good friend who dirt bikes a LOT in that area- and he has never found a mine full of gold Peach
