The person I am..hates the person I have been.

| | | Is there any rule of thumb for exploring abandoned buildings? Let me be more elaborate. I have found a few sites in my area that I want to explore, none of which have any real "access" is there any good advice for getting in without getting yourself put into a jam? I went into this hospital that isn't in use anymore..Was there about 10 minutes and bam alarm goes off. How can you spot these kind of hazards? This is my third year exploring..but most buildings I explore have blown out windows and usually are patrolled..which makes me almost feel better about the location. Any advice?

| | | See if the place has any type of power and go from there. Find out who owns it as well, why it was abandoned, and when it was. That usually helps too with finding out if its alarmed or not.

| | | Good deal. Most of the sites I want to visit have been out of business for a few years now. However there are a few industrial sites I'm looking at as well. A power plant in my area..which will be the hardest place ever.

Usually those arent alarmed. Its just really hospitals and schools you have to worry about. Esp if its privately owned now. The owner likes to drive around on site also. Power plants FTW. Esp when its hard, you know nobody else has been in recently.

| | | Keep an eye open for a small white box:
Run past it (close) and continue to run the hell around for a few minutes and GTFO. Wait from a safe vantage point nearby. If cops or property owners roll in, you now know someone is paying attention to the PIR motion detectors, and they're on! If no one arrives, get on back in there with more confidence than before.

I explained..I have been exploring sites that are pretty much wide open..and usually patrolled..THIS post is about getting into sites with limited access and possibly alarmed. Better to keep quiet and re-read sometimes I guess.

Ya. I went out solo last Friday but a few people knew where i was in case something did happen. I hardly ever go solo mostly because its boring.

| | | my general rule of thumb was taken from "Access all areas" i think it was " take nothing but photos, leave only foot prints"? generally before exploring i go in without too much gear and do a quick run through, ill observe from afar to see if my actions alarmed anyone or attracted cops. then i try to note all accessible areas around the outside of the buildings and i make a plan of attack which generally defines a trail i will make until im actually inside a building. then i guess i go crazy and take pictures then bolt.

This is great advice. With me, it's so hard to find someone that's willing to stop and wait several hours for me to take photos in a locale, unless there's actually another photographer there. Up until a few weekends ago, pretty much all of my UE explorations have been solo- but my roommate always knew where I was, what time I was going, what time to call police if i'm not back, etc.

Me and a friend were at an abandoned mall, we were deep inside and opened a closet door at an old jewelry store and saw exactly this. Once the red light started blinking we froze, then we ran across the hall into an old clothing store and stayed in the dressing room for about 10-15 minutes, luckily no one came...
