I want one! Personally, I really like houses. I feel that they often get overlooked in favor of bigger institutional or industrial buildings. But really, size doesn't always matter. True, a lot of the time you're going to run into really barren buildings with not many artifacts left, however -- as was mentioned by Avius -- there are times where you'll stumble into a goldmine. Boarding houses and tenements seem to be the most boring and have the least amount of shootable qualities, but I have an affinity for older farm houses. They have a personal story to them, much like hotels do, and I really enjoy that. I'd say go for it. Make sure you scout the area sufficiently and give it a shot. You might be pleasantly surprised, and if not, at least you'll have satisfied your curiosity about the houses and will know that they aren't worth a return trip. | | | Definitely check them out because you'll most likely regret it if you don't. Always explore with at least one other person and have fun, but most importantly stay smart and stay safe.

| | | Abandoned houses are my favorite. For me it's always worth the risk of being disappointed with the inside.
We were here...and it was glorious. |

| | | Absolutely! I live in an old house and it's always interesting to see how houses hold up to the elements, what kind of interesting stuff the owners left behind. Just think you are in someones old home, they lived, slept, loved, died in these houses...it's history! [last edit 1/17/2010 11:20 PM by HellinaHandCart - edited 1 times]

| | | In my experience, houses that were foreclosed and not just moved out of and left are more exciting, as they have more things left in them. It also depends on how big the house is. If it's kinda small, chances are it'll be really boring. But if it's a house, say, like this one
then I'd definitely say it's worth the trip! This is a house by me, btw. It's absolutely huge and amazing inside. I've been there twice.

| | | I don't mind abandoned houses, as someone else mentioned, they give you something to do when you've got the need to get out.

| | | Beatnik- there's one about that size (if not a bit bigger) but it is closer to the road. There's 2-30 more rightn ext to it that are a little smaller but still worth it/with better cover. Right now, my only obstacle is this goddamned weather.

Its also interesting to see how they haven't held up. Be extra careful in old houses. Industrial sites and other large locations are probably less likely to be mostly wood construction. Rot in the frames and floors in houses can make them pretty shaky when water starts to leak in. Houses are cool, but keep and eye out for places where it looks like water has gotten in, and test your steps when there could be a chance of bad floors.

| | | Might be a little late for this forum however... I love the decay of anything! It's always worth it for me. The friends I often tour with usually complain, "there's no good photos here, this sucks" so maybe the general consensus among my peers is against me. If it's not amazing I won't go back, at least I tried. So I say go! danger

These ones are pretty solid though, as I said- they're only 10-15 years abandoned and are boarded up tight. No visible rot, at least on the exterior.

| | | Houses are always the most exciting especially when they're full of old memories and things people left behind. Always good for a few pictures.

| | | I pretty much agree with people here and say go for it.. I was wondering the same thing but remembered some of the abandoned buildings that I explored as a kid and decided that I'll not skip anything. I'm going to head out tonight and see if I can get into a few houses that I spotted the other day. If I get some good photos I'll post them up.

| | | As someone who used to explore my grandparents old house (no one's lived there in quite a while) I'd definitely say that houses can be way worth it! Even if you go in one and are disappointed the first time, it's always worth going in again at a different time of day/a few weeks later and looking at it with a different eye. Abandoned houses are almost always worthwhile, IMHO, even if they aren't really big like industrial complexes or hospitals
