Maybe I shouldn't be using my real name...

| | | I was looking at a spot on Google Maps, and it occurred to me that there are probably some cool places that folks have wanted to explore, but neither they nor anyone else seems to have gotten around to visiting. Of course, there are the obvious places that may *never* get a real exploration (SSC, anyone?), but there are others that should be accessible, if one person's idea gets someone else curious. The place I'd like to see in the UE DB is technically not in the South, but it's on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, so it's really close to Louisiana. Buccaneer State Park in Waveland took a direct hit from Katrina -- worse than New Orleans as far as direct storm surge, because it was on the northeast side of the eye. My son and I camped there in the summer of 2005, and we played in the wave pool and slid down the waterslide. Three months later, the buildings were washed away, the wave pool was full of brown water, and the waterslide was still standing... it just had a 20-foot dropoff where the bottom half was ripped out. I don't think the park has reopened -- there's at least one article that claimed it would re-open this year, but nothing saying it actually happened. Mississippi has other things to do with its limited resources, apparently. But according to the Google aerial view, the storm-ravaged facilities are still there. The wave pool is still filled with nasty water, the other pool a few hundred yards to the north is in similar condition, and you can even see the remains of the waterslide, still tempting the daring to take the ride of their (soon ending) lives. Even if it's no longer abandoned, it should be a good photo spot.

| | | I've always wanted to check out the jail that sits atop the Hunt County Courthouse in Greenville, Tx. It used to house juvenile offenders, but since they opened up a new facility a block away, the place just sits there. My aunt used to work as a school diagnostician in Greenville and she would occasionally have to go up there to test the kids to see what grade level they were at when they were about to be released. She swore the place was haunted, and she may have been right. Last month, the place made headlines (which doesn't take much in Greenville), as a team of paranormal investigators did some ehhh... "research" there. http://naturalplan...rving-time-in.html

| | | There's an abandoned Club Med in Bermuda I've been Google Earthing for a few years I'd sure like to investigate.
I'm a blatant waste of time and resources. |

| | | I've seen so many places near where I recently moved to that I'd like to explore. I saw a few houses on my way to my ex's house in Denton too. Well, it's not really abandoned yet but in Arlington there is a certain retirement home full of Masons. I was hoping that soon they'd rebuild somewhere to meet the needs of the growing number of retired Free Masons (Or maybe any Mason for that matter) and kind of forget about that one as they did for the Eastern Stars before it was torn down (*tear*), but I don't see that happening anytime soon. I noticed for the first time the other day while I was working, that they are building onto the older building and adding another building very near. Oh well.. maybe in another 50 years or so. How about:
