12 / 14   QD0031021.JPG

Description
The top of the hill. Formerly the location of the radar domes during Edgar's days as part of the Pinetree Line. The dish on the left has an old Trillium Communications logo, I worked for them back in the late 80's.

Ist it now a head end for the local cable conglomorate?

Not too sure. There are two large towers on site and one adjacent to it. It's a fair drive from Barrie, also home to several large towers but they may not have the altitude above sea level available as is here.

I'm not sure if it's this tower, but the OPP, MOH, MOE, MTO, etc... all have repeaters on this tower. It's a VERY prime location, covers all of Collingwood, Barrie, Orillia, Midland, Penetang perfectly.

I could tell you who's on it if I could see the whole tower profile and antennas.

  Atenna height = 33 , ground elevation = 419. (fm: http://strategis.ic.gc.ca/epic/internet/insmt-gst.nsf/en/sf08019e.html )

The tower in that pic is a head end for Rogers Cable. There's very little transmitting going on with those antennas, as for the most part, it receives feeds off-air and from birds, then puts them on the local CATV network (more or less). Rogers Wireless also has some stuff around 2300MHz there.

Notice the callsign (XKU576). So that's a Rogers tower, for sure,

Well, it is my job ya know.

Maxwell...you're lucky worse didn't happen! A main backbone for the new OPP system runs through that tower...man, if you'd have been seen by the right (wrong) people...heh, I'd hate to be you.

ExKal, I dont think they wanna tell an armed guy to do something. A Shouldered 30.06 is quite an intimidation point. :D
