Built as a radar station for the DND in 1952, this base closed in 1964. Approximately 170 enlisted served here. With their families living in the PMQ's on site, the total population (at its height) equaled approximately 350 people. It was sold to the Province of Ontario in 1964 and operated as the Edgar Regional Centre or Adult Occupational Centre under the Ministry of Community and Social Services. The Ministry maintained the site for the mentally hanicapped until it closed under the Mike Harris regime in 1996. The Base / Centre currently stands abandoned with the nearby resorts of Horseshoe Valley and Carriage Hills as interested parties.

Mayor of Toronto wanted to ship homeless people up to this facility (that was a popular idea!). There was an aboriginal interest in this site as well. Currently rather close to Carriage Hills Resort and Horseshoe Valley Resort, both of which have expressed an interest. 9.6.2023 - Wikipedia ~ "Developer Miya Consulting plans to build 82 houses on the property. As of 2021, the land is being redeveloped and a new subdivision called "Eagles Rest Estates" is currently being built."
