Hey! I learned a new word today. From Dictionary.com:
Turbidity: 1. Having sediment or foreign particles stirred up or suspended; muddy: turbid water. 2. Heavy, dark, or dense, as smoke or fog. 3. In a state of turmoil; muddled: turbid feelings.

Ever heard of Flotation? It is how the good stuff was seperated from the crap. A chemical process is used by NL/Chronos at their other plants now.

this was one of the BIGGEST reasons that this place was shut down. The modernize this place and the New Jersey plant that actually refined the stuff for its uses would've cost millions. Since it's cheaper to get the stuff overseas (hurray for cheap labor and no environmental laws!!!), there was no need to do that. But like every other huge corporation, they never toss something away (especially if they have to clean it up), so this place is still standing. For ever ton of material, there was like 20 tons of waste material (acidic water, tailings, etc) discharged.

NL/Chronos actually moved operations to a plant in Louisana and Quebec when this place went out in 1991
