Was this one buried? I can't imagine one plowing into the ground staying this intact.

I love the guy next to it, it looks like he's cheering.

Eah, she's still airworthy. Soviet aircraft tough as nails!

  He's either surrendering...or indicating a field goal.

Probably just indicating they're curious and unarmed, in the hopes that the aircraft that has spotted them doesn't open fire.

more likely just waving hi. Many Iraqi's just waved and smiled at us and the choper pilots. When the main conflict ended.

I believe its a mig, that aparently got hit while it was on the ground. If you notice the camo netting.

Reminds me of a model rocket that one of my friends had built and flown years ago! We called it the lawn dart because it went nose first into the ground like a lawn dart after doing an awesome corkscrew!

You can tell this guy with his hands up is shouting 'Ahhh!! My plane!! You bastards!!'

Or some-such.

Guy with arms up: "You idiot. I only had two more payments and you had to wreck it!
Second Guy: "Sorry. Guess I should have checked my blind spot."

THAT is why the US banned Lawndarts, that dude could have lost a eye!

yes, that is worded the way I wanted it.

Must have hit at very low speed. That looks like camo netting draping over it - can't be a parachute since the '21's don't have 'em.

Its cammo and that was hit while it was on the ground. Thats why its face down in the ground.
Posted by rainman8889 10/26/2004 4:06 AM | remove
True. If it was hit while flying it would be pretty much scattered all over the place on impact with the ground.
Posted by VanHook 12/7/2004 9:03 PM | remove
actually, it could have just been blown off the tarmac by a nearby explosion or something. There is no damage but to get so deep in the ground is odd. Maybe blew over, and then got covered up in sand in a sandstorm. But yeah, 100% Mig-21, I had a few of these buzz me in China - about crapped myself.

I'd bet the Iraqi pilots wouldn't have obeyed orders to go airborne had they gotten the chance anyway... Likely more suicidal to do so than getting on the bad side of whatever 'military justice' Saddam had going.
