It's strange to see that they partly restored it... new window, railing on roof, a radar on top...? it wasn't there on my B&W pictures...?

the lachine canal has a draft of 8 to ten feet in this area and in the areas last closed to shipping in the west it goes up to 20 feet

Only 8-10 feet? I would have thought that even 20 feet was very shallow draft....

boats must be constantly dragging the bottom , or maybe shaving it.

not even, they wet down the decks to prevent hogging, the only time they risk touching bottom is leaving the locks, they leave slowly to allow water in behind, the boats are loaded to a draft of 25.5 feet most of the time, today when my dragonboat team was out practicing in the seaway the cedarglen (sister of windoc my all time fave) it was loaded to 24 feet, the water in the seaway is low, algonquin power is running thier dam in ste catherine full tilt.
