17 / 24   Main stack

Description
Looking up at the 199m main stack! I petitioned long and hard to get up there, but there was too much red tape involved... I was told I needed a full medical examination by the site doctor, who was away that week. Its only a thousand or so steps... nothing like the 250 feet of vertical ladder I climbed to get up a microwave tower in Wales! I'll get up there some day!

Note the lovely clean patch on the left... the Green peace guys attempted to write something on there, but underestimated how big it needed to be. Needless to say, steeplejacks were called in to pressure wash all the paint off, and the bill forwarded to Green peace; I believe they refused to pay. They added that to their little agreement between RWE npower and themselves. From what I understand they agreed to never set foot on site again, and RWE npower agreed to not sue them a seven-figure amount (much to the displeasure of most of the workers in the area of the plant I was based in!).
