Didcot A: 2000MW power station complex Half old half modern control room Huge turbine hall 80ft boiler house with 4 individual boilers Coal mills Coal handling plant Flue gas plant Ash handling facilities 198m main chimney 6 cooling towers It's own heavy fuel oil 100MW power station Didcot B: 1360MW CCGT power station 4 gas-fired turbines Flue gas heat exchangers Two 80m chimneys Hybrid cooling “towers” The main smoke stack is reportedly protected by a locked plate steel door, with an infrared camera watching, and possibly an alarm system too. Although the stack may be assessable via another route (as the Inverkip power station smoke stack was) this has yet to be confirmed. The site has been almost completely demolished, with a few cooling towers, the chimney and a portion of the boilerhouse remaining. A severe industrial accident occurred when part of the boilerhouse collapsed unexpectedly, killing one demolition worker and trapping three (all now believed to have perished).

Building was started on the 2,000MW coal/gas-fired power station (four 500MW units) for the CEGB during 1964, and was completed in 1968 at a cost of £104m, with up to 2400 workers being employed at peak times. It is located on a 300 acre (1.2 km²) site formerly part of the Ministry of Defence Central Ordnance Depot. The main chimney is 650 ft (198 m) tall with the six cooling towers 325 ft (99 m) each. Didcot B is the newer sibling, constructed in the late 1990s, and uses Combined Cycle Gas Turbines (CCGT) to generate up to 1,360MW of electricity.

Didcot A stopped production on 22/03/2013, and is virtually completely demolished, although the main chimney still stands, get in there FAST!
