Yes Whitby jail did house women as well as men. marijuana grower and exemptee Dianne Bruce was held for nine days in an overcrowded Whitby jail, before the crown reluctantly granted bail.

If this jail houses women, then they most likley got yearly pap tests (cancer screaning) like most women do. Lets hope to God that's what it was used for. Now, if this jail housed only men...I am at a loss for words.....Yipe!

It could just be something that commons with all medical examination tables.

It could also be used for non-medical purposes in a jail... Think "rectal exam".

Uhmmm.. How about cavity searches ? There must have been a good black market for drugs / knifes etc etc ??
Hiding a knife up the a$$ wouldn't be much fun though! :-))

Speaking of hiding knives, I've heard of inmates hiding razors beneath their skin so they can attack a guard on the way to court.

The table looks like where they held prisoners who did not want to cooperate with the guards, as indicated by the detention locks on the cell door; and the arm holders on the bed.

There was a prison somewhere as I recall that the medical office was in a converted cell. I think it was Alcatraz

The stirops would be for drug searches, also for just check ups on female convicts
