Rails were used to reinforce concrete back in the day. They even turn up in old building foundations, or even as beams in the basements of old houses.

The roof trusses of my work are from Chatham's trolly tracks ripped up in 1950. Thgis building isnt going anywhere fast. Its cinderblock and tracks.
