When a truck passes another one, its hard to judge distances. The passed truck flashes his headlights to signify that the passing truck has indeed passed the truck and that its safe to go back into the lane. The passing truck then bllinks his clearance/marker lights to say "Hey, thanks"

I knew about that, but I never realized there was a switch specifically for that purpose.

I was always told that the blink marker was an oldschool turning signal.

back when they had the blue air line button too i guess. That went out of style when people realized it was cheeper to just have the red and yellow airline buttons and old the one down while pulling out the other one ( i worked in AZ training school for 3 months while my hubby got his license,. I sat in on the Air Brakes course a couple of times)
