From the front window of Cappasso & Massaroni LLP downstairs, which holds 2 of the photos Homestead put up here, this photo dates circa 1870, and has the Erie Canal in the distance (the "intersection" past the horse).

The more I look at this, the more I think that the tall building in the center of the pic is Barneys, not the building in the front-left... Which means this is shot from roughly Washington Ave, with Mill Lane and S. Ferry the next 2 intersections, and the Canal out of view around the bend...
