  That's not form following function, that's form for the sake of form. It gives character to the place, but it's ultimately seen as a waste of money now. They would ask: what's the return on investment in ornamented handrails? And now you couldn't get away with rails with that few verticals.

I see no reason why we can't strive for beauty even today...not a neo-classical kind of thing...but a modern expression that goes beyond the fuckin' bottom line all the time...
