I tried using that rope for safety rope once, but I can tell you if you try it out it can be damn sore when it stops you coz there's no elasticity in it what so ever.

You can buy off-cuts of climbing rope fairly reasonably that are much better for the job, but make sure you buy a good caribiner (i.e expensive one) coz using a cheap one is like having no protection at all.

I once hung a hammoch on 2 carabiners like this: the thing broke.
Those are rated at 5000 kN (=500 kg) each, which is nothing if you fall (shocks in excess of 10000 kN can happen if you drop just a few metres), especially not in the way you use them.
If you drop and you're very lucky: you just have 2 broken ribs. If you're just lucky: The thing snaps and you fall, possibly killing you. If you're unlucky, the rope will cut you in two peices, that's not a pretty sight for the relatives.
Don't be an ass and spend some money on proper gear, which can be bought 2nd hand for less than $100 (maybe new even), for a small "diaper" harnass.

Just to make it clear, we are not using these like conventional harnesses with a safety rope.
We are not willing to spend money on a proper harness that will never be used. We climb, and take rests on the way up. There is not other rope involved to catch us, and cut us in half. True, the fall will kill us but that is a well reaserched risk we are willing to take. As for a proper harness, they would do nothing. You physicly cannot be clipped onto the ladder at all times. Our harnesses will take our weight, not a fall, and thats all we want them to do.

You can clip yourself onto a ladder all the time, you just use two caribiners and alternate them on the rungs as you go up the ladder. Done that before, but it takes you will celebrate a birthday on the way up/down it's that slow! :)
