 Overview
 Description
Fort Tillden was constructed as a coastal artillery battery in the first world war. The fort was upgraded with better weaponry more bunkers and eventually a Nike missile site over the course of its operating life.

The site was retired in the late 1970's and turned over to the national parks service. These days it's a rather large site with various bunkers scattered around the area as well as the remains of the Nike missile site.

Fairly large military base, numerous abandoned buildings in different stages of decay, regular NPD patrols & NYPD helicopters (for beach coverage).

Some buildings have been re-purposed but many lie abandoned & crumbling. Hurricane Sandy really took a toll on this base since it's right on the Atlantic.
