A two story concrete and brick high school building of about 33000sq ft on 5 acres. The property is fenced with standard 6ft chainlink and overgrown with trees and brush. The lawn outside the fence was being cut at least as recently as the summer of 2007. Most of the windows are broken out and the interior has been severely vandalized. The roof has failed in numerous places causing the floor beneath it to weather and deteriorate. This location is next to a very old cemetary with several early 19th century interments. It is still very active and several fresh graves, modern headstones and plastic flower arrangements were noted. This location is highly visible from a residential neighborhood and from the road. Do not use flashlights, do not park on or even near the property take a few extra minutes and hike in.

Rodessa Louisiana was originally named Frog Level after some bullfrogs in the nearby bayou kept croaking loud enough to interupt a speech founding resident Noah Tyson was trying make at a town meeting. The peculiar name stuck until 1898 when the Kansas City Southern Railroad was built through the site of present day Rodessa Village and it was renamed in honor of the KCS presidents daughter, Rodessa. In 1939 a tornado wiped out most of the town but this school building survived. It was designed by Louisiana architect Seymour Van Os in 1937 and built with recently acquired oil money. I was unable to find out why it closed but I did learn that the Rodessa students had to start going to nearby Vivian ISD to get their education. As late as 1996, the Caddo Parish School District was still debating what to do with this property. The building itself is contaminated from top to bottom with asbestos. The heater vent pipes are made almost entirely of asbestos! I suspect it would bankrupt this relatively poor school district to remediate and demolish it today. As for any ghosts, I like a good ghost story as much as the next guy and there are several ongoing haunted Internet legends posted about this school and Rodessa Village. The Tyson cemetary is right next to the school which no doubt continues to fuel these myths. Recently a group of ghost busters got arrested in here by the Rodessa police chief herself. I named this UEDB location entry The Ghost School not because I think its haunted but because the school itself is a ghost like a ghost town or ghost ship.
