The bottom of the aquaduct is deteriorating.

It is possible to see the steel reinforcements from the bottom of the aquaduct. Also, it's shear length and the fact that there seems to be nothing around for miles make it a unique site.

Work began on the Brooks Aquaduct in 1912, and by 1915, it was feeding water to some of the driest parts of Alberta. Stretching almost 2 miles across a low valley, it brought water to the Millicent, Patricia and Tilley regions. Over 38 work crews, and 300 construction workers were used to build the structure, which took 19,000 yd3 of concrete and 4 million lbs of steel reinforcing. The 163 thousand litres of water required to make the concrete was hauled in by train on the CP rail line. The entire aquaduct took 3 years and $569,287 to complete. During it's use, the aquaduct had a lot of problems with the deteriorating concrete, and by 1970 increasing water demands made a new canal necessary. The Brooks aquaduct ceased operations in 1979, and in 1983 it was designated a national historic site.

This location is protected under the federal government, but the cost of it's upkeep is too great. It's tended to by volunteer associations, which is slowing the deterioration.
