Crazy and full on. Thanks for bringing home the dangers of exploring. I'm stunned at how no-one cared about this girl, just left the body there. I mean, I thought it would be standard that if a dead body was lying about somewhere there'd be authorities all over the place, police tape, emergency crews etc. Didn't anyone report her missing ? Did her friends just decide to forget about her ? No-one went back in there to look for her ? I take it no post mortem to discover what she died from (thirst I assume).
You may think you can fly.....but you'd better not try it.

Well... In my country exploring catacombs is absolutely legal, so we haven't got special "underground police" like, for example, in Paris. That is why during 2 years noone could remove her from there. Cops and rescuers are afraid to go into catacombs without diggers and diggers don,t want to cooperate with police Her body was 5 km away from the entrance, so only a few explorers knew where did she die. That is why she was lying there being a photo sight.
We know nothing about this poor girl. Only her name and age. We knew nothing about her parents. Most probably that she didn,t tell her parents where is she going to be, so they could not even suppose, that she could be in catacombs. A lot of citizens in Odessa even do not know anything about the biggest underground system in the world that consists just under their houses.

When I can afford it, I'm most definitely flying over there to go exploring!
My family on my father's side is entirely Ukrainian, we still own an estate somewhere near Lviv.

I'm glad they finally brought the girl's body up... I simply can't imagine how terrifying her death must have been.

These catacombs look like so much fun, but you definitely have to be careful. Thanks for the awesome post!

There must be parts of these catacombs that were built earlier. In wikipedia it mentions the limestone mining but it also says "In the early days of Christianity, believers conducted secret worship services in these burial caves". Very interesting place, show us more photos if you got them.

Listen to everything Eugene says. I just spent 4 class days under Odessa with his crew (Ashly Crew represent!). In addition to the catas it's a great town with a lot of character.

Paris you can easily do with no guide, just a map and a decent head on your shoulders. Do not try that in Odessa.

lilyblackrose, it's a very sad story. She went with her friends into katakombs to celebrate a 2005s new year. It was a very big bad-experiment group, so probably when in the morning drunk group left katakombs, they forgot girl inside. It was a very long and painful death! She couldn't find an entrance.
She was taken out only in the end of 2007 аnd buried.


I wonder if she wasn't killed perhaps accidently during the party or died in some other manner and was just left there..or I guess she just hung out with the wrong people, who didn't give a crap about her whatsoever.

How far inside was she found? That is really sad.
