Honestly - finding models for such "out there" type concept shots is not easy. However, this nice lady happens to be an artist herself, and once I explained the shot I was going for I think she could tell I was just trying to do something creative - and not something pervy. But if you're seriously interested in working with nudes/form, start poking around art classes and galleries. Figure models, artists models, etc., are usually always down for doing something creative and unique.

Working with the nude form can open up a whole new creative outlet to your photography. However, it does pose its challenges when trying to find willing subjects - especially when the not-so-standard shoot locations are involved. If you're seriously interested in doing this type of work, my best advice is to start with simpler work that you enjoy; and if you really feel the inspiration to shoot nudes, let your previous work move you in that direction. Don't be intimidated by shooting nudes, or approach it like it's an entirely different style - incorporate it into what you already like to do - make it an extension of your existing approach to creativity. I've gotten to the point where I let my work speak for itself. If some one is interested in working with me, they usually approach me about it. I really don't go around looking for volunteers - simply because, as you said, it could come off as "creepy". But there are many places where people engage in discussing collaborative artistic efforts... art galleries, showings, photo clubs, etc. Spend time hanging around other artists and you'll eventually find plenty of people willing to be involved in your creations. Now, the "letting your work speak for itself" idea is the old chicken/egg argument. You can't have work to show off without having some experience working with models; but how can you work with models if you have no work to show off?? My suggestion - start with the basics. Just shoot what you like. If you employ creativity, ingenuity, and a unique approach to your work, you don't necessarily have to have a huge portfolio of model/nude work to have people approach you, or at least be willing to work with you. Start simple - get a portfolio going - and don't be afraid to show it off/ask for advice. Best of luck! [last edit 7/18/2011 12:50 AM by JustSomeDude - edited 2 times]
