| | | Posted by ~Nin When we explore a location and make it out successfully we typically give everyone a firm handshake whilst bellowing "EXCELLENT JOB GENTLEMEN" in our version of manly victorian accents. It all stemmed from this one time that we explored while wearing steampunk costumes...

| | | The few times I've gone into a big place (asylum, mall, hospital) my friends and i would go back to our one friend's apartment and get smashed while we looked over photos and shared our stories and stuff.

| | | I've only explored twice, so I can't say I have much in the way of traditions, but one recurring event has been that both times deer have made themselves present in odd places (in the ghetto by our factory/in the graveyard that was our starting point for a country trek). That was pretty cool/bizarre. Definitely spooked us a bit. Oh, and I feel like going at night will be a thing with my friends. We're all much, much more concerned about getting caught than hurt and we're all really fleet, reaction-trained (martial arts mostly) people, plus it adds to the spookiness and fun of it.

| | | now that i think about it..."have sex in..." seems that goes back a few years to "onsatu" at "the outlet mall", so i take back my previous post about drinking a beer, as a fact, the beer is left at the scene of said sex...
When I say I'm 'clean and sober', it means I've showered and I'm headed to the liquor store. |

Sounds like the last explore I went on alone; get to site, realize the horror that's about to go down in my underpants, hop back over the fence, bike down the road to the porta-potties I saw earlier (thank god), bike back to the site feeling a million times better, realize my body isn't quite done screwing me over, and then finally bike back and get to the exploring. As for traditions, I almost always find myself having to take a leak everywhere I go. Does that count?

Sometimes when I read an intense exploring story or have pictures that really make me feel like I'm there, then I've gotta go! (number 2 that is. Not exploring.)

| | | I stole this idea from someone on the forum: A Meet n' Greet tradition is to bring a flashlight and place it on your table. It really helps explorers identify one another. Going to an all you can eat buffet (usually pizza) has become somewhat of a post-exploration tradition for my regular buddies and me.

| | | I take all the keychains/decorations off my backpack before I go out. It keeps me from making as much noise. I also pick up a fresh bottle of white shoe polish or a ball of twine or yarn to use to keep from getting lost. Yes, a ball of twine, the trick is older than dirt but it works. Besides, I'm a mythology buff with a thing for tunnels and a sarcastic sense of humour ;P
Paved roads and suburban homes? Pfft, that's just the icing; I want the cake. So here's us on the raggety edge. I aim to misbehave. |

Here is a geeky fact I recently learned while reading my dictionary (really). The word "clue" (older spelling "clew") originally meant a ball of twine. A reference to the one Theseus used to find his out of the Labyrinth. We sometimes used colored chalk in the drains (but there is no cool geeky fact to go along with chalk).

| | | I always take a picture (of something obscure; couch, window, interior door, etc) with my phone when entering the location and upload it to some friends asking them if they can guess where I am. Generally, no one is ever able to guess, but this also serves as a 'just in case' something happens to me. Best hide and seek game for my dead body ever?
I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of stars makes me dream. |

| | | My biggest tradition is wasting all my camera's battery power on spots I've already been, then when finally getting to somewhere really awesome/I've never been/is usually sealed off/involves a crazy fucking climb my batteries die. I spend more time taking them out and putting them back in for two or three pictures than I do enjoying the place itself. You'd think I'd learn..
