Hey guys I noticed the timestamp in your EXIF data. If the internet po po swings around town they might notice you've been choo-chooing in tunnels recently. You might want to remove it. If you ever take a picture with a smartphone it would be prudent to do the same because I think several (I know the iPhone does) smart phones embed GPS coordinates in the EXIF data. Yeah, camwhores these days are giving potential stalkers their exact locations. Isn't that genius.

Nice pictures! In light.jpg what is the source of the light that is entering the tunnel? The surrounding buildings/street lights/etc. that surround the site?

Hopefully I will be able to check it out. University is eating up all my time though. :'(.

Since we're vaguely on the topic of trains (or at least tunnels that trains go through) does anyone know anything about these train cars? They sit beside a really really really big warehouse in New West. If you've been on the millenium line you probably know what I'm talking about. An old fart that I know told me that Woodward's used to own the warehouse but I'm not entirely sure if he's right. The warehouse doesn't look that old. The train cars however are a different story. The They are old, rusty, falling apart, covered in tarps, protected with two fences and barbed wire, and a lot of thorny bushes, as well as some motion detectors and cameras attached to them. I assume they've sat there for years because of said security.

Sorry for bad pics.

I think the warehouse used to be the Brewers distributors one, before that,I do think it was woodwards.
The trains are most likely owned by BC Rail, and will be restored eventually.

I used the view historical imagery on google maps to look at a few old satellite photos and it looks as if the cars have slowly been increasing in number since 2002.

Those cars are a private collection. So are the parts close by, that you can visit. They were bought from BC rail many years ago. One of the Steam Gen cars was old Via stock. I have been in many of those cars, and they are WELL alarmed, and very well covered by cam. In days long gone, it was easy to have a few beer and relax in comfort. Long time ago. Also, Epic tunnel pix Doggy. Epic!

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too!

Nice work and pics from TL & Co. Kind of anticlimactic to have the tunnel simply end like that at a concrete wall. I guess you could hear the skytrain rumbling behind that wall?

Actually in the pic of the end you can see sort of a grate at our feet, the sound of the skytrain was quite audible through it.

The Buzzer's blog posted a documentary about Skytrain a few days ago. Here's the link. Around 20:00 into the video the tunnel is discussed.

I had seen the old trains previously on a skytrain trip and had wondered what they are. One time a tarp was up and I think (I'm going off of memory) it said BCER which made me wonder.
After some googling I came across they are BC Electric Company trolley cars.
http://en.wikipedi...a_Electric_Railway

There is just no funding to restore them. I think some hope was ignited with the Olympics and the temporary running of a railcar on the old tracks, but obviously that didn't work out.
Too bad they have high security, but there is an old caboose over by the Brunnette offramp there that is covered in tags and is apparently trashed, so I guess the area has its issues.
For those who don't know the skytrain followed a lot of the BCER track's routes, and the station locations stayed the same for a bunch as well (I believe).

Warning: Self-promotional plug

Inspired by the Dunsmuir Tunnel's recent demolition and subsequent walling-off, I spent hours doing research and put together this little comic zine. It explains the basic history of the tunnel up to the present time.
It's a brief 6 pages, 5.5x8.5, but I put a lot of effort into getting the drawings and information correct. PM or email me if you want one, $2 inc postage in Canada, or else $1 in person/Vancouver if you're friendly.

Disclaimer: I have never actually been inside the Dunsmuir tunnel, except whilst riding the Skytrain.

so they've demolished the tunnel portal? The Heritage Vancouver website says that's part of the plan. ;_;
