| | | So you always thought that a fish-eye lens could be the difference between your crap photos and the artistic gems you've seen on UER? Well, look no further than your local dollar store - where you can pick up one of these door viewer gems.
Works like a charm with your standard crappy point-and-shoot camera, for an instant fish-eye effect without photoshop! Of course it leaves much to be desired, and the convex (wait, concave?) part of it is actually fairly minor...but for $1 your Flickr followers will think you've raked in so much money selling photos that you've bought a new fish-eye lens...and that's worth something!

A nasty habit of buying useless crap in dollar stores just to play with...I first imagined making it into a prop monocle...then noticed it just...might...work...with my camera.

| | | Nice idea, but I wouldn't pay a pound for a fisheye lens, unless to sell it on. Always seemed kinda gimmicky to me.

Right on. Fisheye pics look like shit to begin with, and a cheap wannabe version doesn't make it any better.

Still thinking about it myself, since a decent camera is still a LONG way in my future. Thinking about a Fujifilm S700 because I can get a used one for between $90-130, and they sell 3 lens adapters for it for $30 each! (Telephoto, wideangle, and fisheye!)

| | | Just in case anyone is curious, here is a shot taken that day, in a drain: Credit for the shot goes to StrangePlaces. It can be fun to mess around with, heh, perhaps I'll even pick one up myself.

| | | So, I got bored today and gave this a shot. My lens ended up looking like this at the end, it looks ghetto as shit.
On the other side I put a filter for my lens so that the fisheye lens will attach to the camera perfectly. The photos are pretty sharp and colourful. Ignore the noise, I was shooting at ISO 1600 for this shot.
I realize the size of the photo I just posted was huge but I did it for a reason. It cost me a total of about $20, I made some changes though to how it was suggested to make the lens. I used a funnel inside of the PVC pipe to hold the lens still and help funnel the light into the camera.

| | | Here's an image taken with a doorviewer. Camera was put on manual focus. DV works best when pics are taken in darker places. Camera has troubles with exposure in daytime bc part of FOV is covered by the doorviewer attachment (black) while the image itself is very bright.
