Would you all think me beset by madness if I told you I'm planning on camping out on McNabs Island --- in February??

Also, are any of you mad enough to do the same??

    Things to Do:
    -Eat Snow!
    -Explore Ruins!
    -Shiver!
    -Run about in the Dark!
    -Drink Hot Soup!
    -Take Pictures!
    -Check Toes for Frostbite!
    -Feed Hungry Deer!

WOW!!

Seriously, i'm going to try some winter camping over the next couple months, and I plan to hit McNabs for a couple nights during my February vacation. I figure i'd ask if anyone wants to come with?
Tenative schedule of Saturday Morning February 20 2010 - Monday Afternoon February 22 2010, though I am amicable to adjustment.

Not a good idea...I'm not going out there again until at least the spring.

Let me preface this by saying I'm glad that none of you chose the You Suck!! option...

Wow, A surprisingly negative reaction! BeaverBanker notes that it is actually a fun experience, which I agree with. Its like regular camping, only with the exciting knowledge that you may go to sleep and never wake up.
Similarly, Nootz and Tribeachpunk make an important point: you need to have the necessary equipment in order to not die.
It will be interesting to see what February looks like in 2010, what with the mild, climate-change winters we've been having. If its -30 in the sun and snowing all day, I won't be going. I can sit in a tent all day at home...

Related Question: has anyone here been on McNabs in the winter? I would love to hear your experiences.

It's been a while since I've done any winter backpacking but even then it was about 10 degrees S of your planned Mcnabs outing. The right gear is essential. It's 8f and blowin about 40mph right now 200 mi due W of McNabs. The thought of being out on what looks to be an uninhabited island w/o proper gear ain't a fun one. But that sissy crap aside, I do miss the challenge. Go for it, just be prepared. and if you're not can you get out?

Well, if you look at the way our winters have been going lately, we haven't been getting much snow until around late January to about mid February.

its a mostly uninhabited island, give or take a few people. i have the proper gear for the trip, other than a handful of small items that i will be buying over the next few paycheques. that being said, if you can think of any essential items, i'd love to hear about it.
as for getting out, there is excellent cellular coverage on McNabs island. i'll make them send the Coast Guard out for me.

Ohh, by the way: you should let Redbeard know that you're camping over there. N250cc and I almost got in shit for not telling him that we were camping. This was back in August.
Let him know ahead of time, then he can call DNR to let them know you'll be staying there. If a DNR official catches you out there without permission, you can apparently get a pretty hefty fine.

RB told us that he's never heard of DNR fining anyone for camping and that they're rarely present on the island. He said that DNR had only been out once the previous summer to do a patrol. He suggested that even if DNR found us with a fire, they'd just ask us to put it out.

By the look of it, we were among the most responsible campers to hit the island in a long time.
