RB told us that he's never heard of DNR fining anyone for camping and that they're rarely present on the island. He said that DNR had only been out once the previous summer to do a patrol. He suggested that even if DNR found us with a fire, they'd just ask us to put it out.

By the look of it, we were among the most responsible campers to hit the island in a long time.

He told us that they would, he probably gives different people different stories, lol.
But we used the same site that you did.

And DNR probably only did that patrol the previous summer because someone drowned.

I get the impression that they're pretty scarce out there

Nootz, when you guys camped at SB, could you tell that we'd cleaned it up and made it a little more habitable? I know the battery doesn't get any traffic now, so I kind of figured it would have been as clean, or almost as clean, as we left it?

Well it was about a year between then and my last visit, so I didn't really notice whether or not it was cleaner. Although we did clean up a lot more before we left. The whole battery was basically clean of garbage when we left.

I'll tell ya though, hauling all that wood up the side of the hill was tiring. We used the bucket that was there and carried up some drift wood.

Maybe someday when I can afford to be outfitted properly

is it that you're not outfitted at all, or that you are somewhat not outfitted properly?

I love winter camping...haven't been able to go for a couple of years though.

come with! i'll be needing a second person to carry me to the boat, once my toes fall off.

Ohh, by the way: you should let Redbeard know that you're camping over there. N250cc and I almost got in shit for not telling him that we were camping. This was back in August.

I was planning on calling DNR myself to secure permission, but thanks for the reminder. regardless, i expect he'll be giving me a thorough going-over about our ability to camp in february before he takes us to the island.

also, i was last on McNabs in mid-september, and Strawberry Battery looked like someone had been camping there, and also cleaning up after themselves. there was a big box of crap in a corner near the fire, which i now assume was your doing? your presence has been felt.

I can do a a hike in/hike out kind of trek in the winter but I couldn't survive the night without investing in gear.

I need a tent for the spring. My old one is done.

We camped on Natal Day and collected a bin of garbage. Hauling it out wasn't gonna happen.

Yeah, we used the same bin for hauling the wood up the hill, then returned all the garbage that was originally there into it.

BTW Tribeach: tents are pretty cheap at Canadian Tire. I got mine for like $80 the morning of my camping trip.

yea, there were actually 2 bins at SB, one had all the garbage in it and the other one was the supper table\fire wood gathering bin while Noots and I were there. Everything we brought with us also left with us, I dont know why people to bring there garbage out, the pack is still much lighter than on the way in.

When I said hauling the garbage out wasn't going to happen, I meant all of the garbage we collected in the area, not our own. We left with whatever we didn't burn.

So...
My jerkoff employer is lining me up to fire me. The first thing they have done is deduct 56 hours from the coming pay, for days they claim i wasn't on approved leave. i may be further fired in the next week. I'll be fighting this, of course. But i am likely going to have no money and possibly no job in the immediate future.
Therefore, McNab's Camping Madness is canceled. Sorry to anyone who had plans.

I hope to reschedule in the future. By coincidence, it will also be warmer. Would there be new interest in some Camping Madness in a few months down the road? I'm thinking there's a long weekend in May...

Your employer sounds like my former employer.

They mistreated me for 18 months so I left them hanging at the end of November, just in time for the Christmas rush.

i say good. employers who give no respect, deserve none in return.
i'd have left my job a long time ago, but it's hard to give up a sweet union job. pension, benefits, and large money. this is just the kick in the pants i needed, really.

Those are actually powder magazines for the guns at either Fort McNab or Hugonin Battery. Or in other words, it's where they stored all the ammo.
