New to Portland, where's the welcoming committee?

As of next Wednesday, I'll be relocated to the lovely state of OR. Can I get a NW explorers introduction/roll call? I'm lookin' for some exploring buddies, PM me if you're down. I'm planning on buying some wheels asap, so i'll be able to do some traveling as well. I'm coming from Philly and have a lot of UE experience. Let me know who's down.
Take it easy,

Welcome to pdx. Good luck, it's pretty quiet here. At least you're old enough to enjoy the beer.

Welcome to OR. Yeah, not much going on around the metro area. And the stuff outside of town is mostly caves and mines. But I'm always up for meeting explorers, let's grab a beer sometime.

Good.

Portland though from what I have heard, had lots of abandonments prior to 1995.

Portland has a lot of condos, section 8 housing, transients, etc.

During 1990s and most of 2000s a lot of high rise condos were built.

The city center has very modern, sterile look and whats left of cool buildings were mostly demolished.

I think there's an old Meire and Frank building in NW that's from the turn of 20th century, but it just looks cool on the shell. The inside is all hollow.

Even the famous B&O warehouse got turned into some lame office spaces.

The guys that have already posted are probably driving a bit farther than that. At least one of them has never been let down......too bad.

You must not have 4 WD. There's plenty there and not too very distant from there either.

There's still some neat stuff around... Not much in Portland though, unless you have a taste for active sites. PSU has pretty extensive tunnels, though I have heard they were recently made more secure.

There is some stuff here in the Metro area, But if you are willing to drive a bit, you can explore anything from old bunkers, to mines, and abandoned logging mills and more.

It does seem like Oregon does demolish stuff pretty quickly after it's abandoned.

But not always. The Mccormick and baxter site was open for years, and heavily tagged up. It was abandoned in 1992, and finally demolished in 2009... And yet, there is still a dock, and other noise there....

BTW, what is the word on the abandoned hotel, anyone been there? All I see is fence, and I have never heard any reports of trespass on N disp. on my scanner. What gives?
