| | | [Steve Irwin Voice] Notice here where we have two young, curious sheilas! They are carrying cameras, typical of most urban explorers. Right now they are surveying the property to determine if entry is possible. The house is boarded up tight, so it looks like the urbexers have decided to pass on exploring this farmhouse from 1900.[/Steve Irwin Voice]

| | | It's most likely a hunter's scouting camera. They are set up to figure out if animals are using specific game trails. Not that a few explorers getting caught on camera would be the weirdest/coolest thing to have gotten spotted by scouting cameras. My dad had a friend who had set up a scouting camera on his property which he checked to find pictures of a deer walking in front of the camera, then the next image showed the deer stopping looking back at something out of range, the last image showed a mountain lion stalking the deer... http://www.cabelas...601139&id=cat20098

| | | Posted by Ironmtw I worked with a professor during my undergrad and we placed a bunch of these devices along the Arizona/Mexico border. The professor expected to find that mountain lions were in the area killing cattle but to our surprise we found JUGUARS were the culprit!!!

| | | Posted by Ironmtw Hey there kids That sure has all the makings of one of them motion activated cameras all right. It does not look like the models that are used by the police department, it looks a lot more like the type used by wildlife researchers. They are often placed in locations where someone is trying to determine what type of wildlife is in the area. I worked with a professor during my undergrad and we placed a bunch of these devices along the Arizona/Mexico border. The professor expected to find that mountain lions were in the area killing cattle but to our surprise we found JUGUARS were the culprit!!! It turned into a huge news story that Arizona actually had a small jaguar population, very cool!!!
|
This wasn't too long ago. I also found the story about the surveillance cameras, was it in 2004? http://www.azcentr...20jaguar20-ON.html

| | | Yep, 2004ish sounds about right, I think they found them in the late 90's as well. Very shocking to see such a rare and exotic cat in Arizona but totally cool!!! I know Phoenix P.D. is using a similar camera system to catch taggers right now. The systems actually talks to anyone who walks by, which makes them look up just in time to have their picture taken. The magic talking camera then tells you the police now have your photo and to leave the area. I love it!
