|  | | | Anyone in New Brunswick? Kind of new to this whole thing but love it so far. I have heard a lot of rumors about tunnels under Fredericton. Anyone shed light on them?

I am posting because I will be in Fredericton over Christmas. We could pop by the decrepid train station. That is the only thing I know of there. I would assume the tunnels you are hearing about are the steam tunnels of UNB. I am not a huge fan of steam tunnels though. I find them uncomfortable and boring, for the most part.
EDIT: I know this is not exploring, but someone should take me to the Bay of Fundy while I am in NB. I have never been and it looks so darn pretty.

The problem? It's success! As soon as somewhere is abandoned, it's stripped and torn down within days / weeks.
Maybe I'm spoiled by the 200 year old Asylums I'm used to here - but I find NB sadly lacking in the 'locations to explore' department.

There were alot of tunnels. I believe the tunnels were mostly filled in or collapsed but I always wondered if any were still accessible. This guy knew everything about Parkton so if there was an entrance to the tunnels he would know about it, unfortunately he's passed on now and that map seems to have disappeared, but you never know it might show up one day.

| | | | If the tunnels are actually WW2 era and not earlier than chances are they are still intact, they would have been well built especially since no one really knew how long the war would go on for. I know in NS, the underground sites that haven't been ruined by vandels or burnt are still in mostly intact conditions with the exception of flooding and rust etc. So if it all possible i would try my hardest to gain some access or more info about these tunnels

It was going to be turned into a tourist spot, but some fuckers messed it up so they closed it.
Again, it's not being turned into condos. I drive by it daily.

It's been a long time, so I don't know how accessible the Mispec fort is. With all that Irving's doing out in Red Head, it might have been leveled. If you drive waaaaaay down the Red Head Road, you'll come to the gated entrance to Irving's "Canaport." If you manage to get through that gate, go past where the lake comes close to the road. You'll see an overgrown (was once paved) parking lot. In the far right-hand corner of that parking lot you'll find a path and some ruined outhouses. They look like concrete blocks with toilets smashed off of them. Keep going down that path, and you'll come to some bunkers, and a gun turret, with BREATHTAKING views.
While you're out there, take some pictures for me!!!
If you have some extra time, when you're done follow the Red Head Road all the way to the end. Go slow past Mispec Beach, because when the road ends, it really freaking ends, just when you get tired of going slow. The road ends at a place called Cape Spencer, which is the most beautiful place in Canada. (IMHO, lol) When you get there, know that I'm jealous of you, because I'm in Manitoba for the next few years!

I actually use to go there when I was a child. It was quite interesting at the time. Most of the buildings then were fairly destroyed. Now I can only imagine what they look like.
I'll probably put a group together this spring/summer to go check it out.
