| | | We have our own sub-board! It's mostly dead though. But yeah, it helps. If nothing else you learn how to fall: which helps if you slip whilst dismounting a roof. I did it and surprised myself by going into a perfect roll (Granted, the roof was only 3/4 floors high (and thats three-fourths, not three or four) ). Besides the physical skills, mostly catleaps and rolls, Parkour also gives you that eye to see where architecture as a potential path. I love to "explore" my way up the side of a building, especially as the roofs are typically less secure entrances to a building. Plus, you can run. Which comes in handy. Just make sure not to trust anything... rusty pipes that would make an excellent hold, portions of the floor for landing... they aren't necessarily as supportive as they typically would be.

| | | I wish I got into parkour 15 years ago. It's too late for my ass now. Parkour would be very useful in certain parts of infiltrating some places. It's always better if you can scale a 12-foot wall gracefully than by struggling over.

Not asking a kid to move out of a shot = dumb. I take it he wasn't actually good at it? If so, you could have gotten some amazing shots, you know, a guy mid-gap over 30' of rubble between two walls, or something. I'm just guessing. Come on then, lets see you keep up if its not-exercise... Not a sport, I'll give you that. As long as you let me rule out figureskating, gymnastics, and the rest of 'em with judges.

It's okay, based on what I've seen here you give parkour a run for its money. Parkour is like anything else: skateboarding, climbing, urban exploration. Done with thought and style, it's a compelling, artful act. Done the way 99% of participants practice it, it's hideously silly.

| | | its spread to Colorado? good god. Im all for anything that gets kids outside. anything to burn some calories. maybe its because Im old, frail and biter I just get annoyed when I see it. it doesnt seem that hard ( give me some speed or pcp and I can jump off a building or run up a wall). I think what really irritates me about it is people doing it just because its hip, european and americans like that stuff like that ( think tight jeans messy hair and bad teeth). I do admit that seeing a kid leap over a picnic table like a gazelle makes me laugh. oh well.. not trying to piss anybody off, just old and sore and im just giving my 2 cents. G'by now. your uer senior citizen..

| | | let me inform u guys. Parkour is the "art" and/or discipline of getting from point A to point B (and back) as fast and as efficiently as possible. And anyone who said parkour was silly, ridiculous or not a real sport/exercise is an idiot. Seeing a kid jump over a picnic table (Kong Vault) is one of the hardest moves in parkour and is one off the better moves that can get u over alot of obstacles... i hope someone on this forum that disagrees with parkour gets in a situation where he needs it eg Life Or Death Situation in a REMOTE area!! goodluck p.s. please watch the movie District 13-the creator will amaze you and make u understand what im trying to say!!

| | | Epic. Nicely Done. Anywho To Some Level People take Parkour waaaay to seriously.. Your not HardCore cause you and some of your friends go to a park and show off.. Doing afew vaults and some jogging. If you enjoy it, bonus, but unless your willing to have some Devotion to it, then why bother. All your doing is developing bad habits, and thinking your capable of WAY more then you rly are. It was more interesting before it was kool, and people have to rationalize doing it. If its rly "You" then you dont even have to bother putting it to words. Do it, Enjoy it, And instead of talking about it.

Lol, wut? So trying/practicing things in a controlled environment is going to make someone less aware of their abilities and limitations? Also, how is parkour a "bad habit"?
On a side note, my parkour came in useful. Security started following me on the way out of site, but completely lost interest after vaulting a fence. If I hadn't trained, no way would I have been able to vault that fence while on a cell phone. K, so, weak example, but it was this weekend, so it gains relevance points.

| | | Hey, whats up? I have been doing Parkour for about as long as you have! It is definately a fun and interesting practice.
Will my experience in parkour help me explore more venues? |
Yes and no. Parkour is awesome for improving your spacial perception and overall fitness. Parkour will benefit you in Urban Exploration by allowing you to see entrances and exits to locations more easily. The climbing skills and fitness that come through practicing Parkour will allow you to enter locations more easily and access harder to reach and more secure entrances. I have to say Parkour will not help in some ways though. When doing Parkour the goal is to get from one place to another in the fastest and most efficient way possible. In Urban Exploration, this is still important but even more important is safety. Also, most people do Parkour trusting that the obstacles that they are usually traversing are solid and secure. In UE many obstacles are old, rusty and weak so you have to go a lot slower and more carefully. Parkour does help greatly if you have to land/fall from great distances.
is parkour even necessary? |
No parkour is not necessary but many of its techniques and theories are very useful in UE.
