| | | Mine near Denver < on 11/27/2007 8:09 AM >
| | | Hello all Earlier this year, I was on a long trip and decided to stay on Denver for a month, to enjoy the mountains. While I was there, I happened upon a mine that I eventually went into. Do you all encounter a lot of mines out there? I found it pretty cool to be in one. If it suits anyone, I'll post some pics. My question is: Is there a directory to find out about specific mines? I'd like to know when it was active, and what was mined there.

| | | Loys of mine types around here, and we'd all love to see your photos. As for sources, the US Geological Survey has lots of info. I think I have a link somewhere, and I'll get back with you.
I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread. |

| | | Thanks a lot! I'll just need to figure out where I was. I'll compile some of the images and post them on here. Nothing really special about them. I had some issues since I was using a point and shoot digital. No big lights to show much detail. Edit: Ok so it looks like there are a ton of mines out there. I'm sure anyone who lives in the area of Denver would have known about it. It is visible from the road. In any case, all the mines that I can find there appear to be gold and silver mines. Thanks guys. [last edit 11/27/2007 8:12 PM by Ghost13 - edited 1 times]

| | | Good Point. As I think of it, I saw a family outside of the mine on my second trip there. It's on the road to Mount Evans, Clear Creek County I think. 103 perhaps? Just let me know if I'm out of line posting this.

| | | Ok so since my pictures are big, I can't get them in here with the restriction. I've never been able to resize them correctly. I go to photobucket to host them, and they ask big brother questions that I lie about (of course), upload 20 pics, and when I move them to an album 3 are missing. Nice. Upload 3 more, and here we go: Wait! Lo and behold, they've reappeared, so now there is one extra. http://s213.photob...e%20near%20Denver/

| | | Yeah the lock was still intact on the grate, it was the hinge side that was broken. You could pry it open just enough to squeeze through. I read a bunch on bump keys, that is an excellent thread.

| | | I've been to quite a few mines here in Colorado, but you'll find that very few are worth the time ( at least in my opinion ) and that only the large producers are gonna really impress. Oh and you may notice that mines which are close to high-traffic roads are gonna be locked down more securely than our abandoned missile silos in many cases! I haven't been over into that area in ages... and can't recall anything noteworthy. Anything to report? Bleg, Sorry for the half winded response. I'm tired. Ask me later.

| | | Nothing spectacular. Just what you saw there in the pics. It was my first mine. I did get the location of an accessible Titan silo, but I needed more gear that what I had with me. I think it's likely that I'll be back in the coming summer. I want to take Longs Peak and the Titan base.

It wasn't a mine. I asked my prof about it, remember?
Cool pics, Ghost13. Let us know if you get back out here. We're down for an adventure (or at least I am). Maybe we can hit up a bunch of other missile silos as well.

| | | This is pretty cool, I haven't seen many, or any, mines on the way to mount evans, so I'm guessing it's highway 103 from Idaho Springs and not from Evergreen? Were you able to find this mine in the USGS database?
