Yes I came from the Idaho Springs side.. I looked on USGS, but there are so many that I can't figure out which is which, and I don't have GPS so I never got the coordinates.

I know I'm digging this up, but on Google Earth, if you find the spot you went in, you can hover your mouse and write down the coords, which are listed at the bottom of the screen. Thats the best way I can think of right now, but there might be others.

Those small gates that in front of the mines are put there by the BLM . They put there to keep people out due to dead air or bad caving it is wise not to enter them . If anyone wants to go into a cool mine or explore some old mine sites let me know i know of many and i own about half a dozen claims that you could explore safely! I have been a miner for over 10 years and i know the history of most of the mines in colorado so if anyone is interested let me know!

Duke,
I'm definitely interested. I've never been in a mine before but I think it would quite an adventure.

Really? I wasn't aware that there was BLM that far east.

Yes there is ! The Berau Of Mines no longer exeists in Colorado the Berau of land management took over the closing and caping of mine shafts/adits in 2000 there is usaly a BLM survey cap above those gates (ita a round metal "tag" about 2" in dia.) and that has the BLM/B. of Mines number on them and that number if you look it in BLM records will tell the mine name and date it closed.P.S. I worked for the BLM a few years ago closing off some mines near Morrison
