We went to the system the day after the big rain and wow, waaay too much flow to get anywhere fast.
Congrats on pretty much finishing the system. Looks like the drain is of the shrinker variety, like most of the drains in Colorado. I don't usually keep following the lines if they get small enough that I've gotta stoop, unless there is reason to believe there is something worthwhile up ahead.
Yeah, I wandered into the Aqua Golf drain too, and you guys may be right in saying they're not finished. Dunno what's going on with that place.

Since we didn't get much done in the Crystal Pepsi/Brick Titan system, we returned to the Waterfall Temple instead, we had planned on going to Railyard as plan B, but it was flooded too!

Some pictures from the day:

We even found time to Stop at the Gallery, which saddens me every time. The tags are even good, but all I see is vandalism.

I have no idea what those drains you're mentioning are, since I was denied full membership. Maybe you could fill me in. Thanks.

they're on the platte as well, the one has this large room that used to have no tagging at all, but then taggers came and basically sprayed everything. I need to meet some of you folks, I live in lakewood...sooo, yeah we should meet up some time.

Certainly looks impressive.

Would those who've done both Crystal and Rivergate be able to guage which is actually a better system?

Cheers.

Edit: Sorry i should rephrase as its rude to ask such a question. Both drains seem to have many merits and features, im just interested in knowing if the two of them are comparably good.

I'll attempt a quick review.

- Crystal Pepsi/Brick Titan @ five plus miles of walkable redbrick and RCP
- Rivergate Hollows @ Two point five or so miles of RCP and Ceramic Pipe.

- Rivergate Hollows can be walked easily and mostly toured in about two hours ( or rafted through in about fifteen minutes. )
- Crystal Pepsi/Brick Titan is so large and so slippery that navigation takes quite a long time. I couldn't imagine doing this monster from the outfall to the shrinkers and back without popping a cover. Wouldn't that be almost ten miles of walking awkwardly? I wish one could raft this one, but it doesn't look at all probable now.

- Rivergate has many rooms, junctions/branches, slides and shape/material changes.
- Crystal Pepsi/Brick Titan sadly looks to be... a series of tubes. I haven't really seen any interesting rooms or features as of yet, unless you count the areas where the drain was dug up to put utility piping through or the tri-split outfall. The City Park interception may yield somethin' though, and I might note that Joe and the guys haven't been down every junction. I shouldn't be so harsh on such an incredible drain, but it's kinda boring, even at what? Thirteen plus feet of redbrick diameter in most places? For Colorado that is completely unheard of.
Maybe I'm just bummed that it wasn't a London dungeon. Oh well. Still, much kudos to Joe and his group for mostly finishing this place before me! It really is an engineering wonder.

Complete this sucker Joe. It's yours!

Dave and I attempted the new RCP being built at the intersection, but it was like 1/3 full of mud and almost impossible to get anywhere in it. So if we decide to do it, it'll have to be after construction or something is my guess.

You're not talking about the ceramic portion after Giant's Tooth falls are you? If not then you may know of a branch I haven't seen or just don't remember.
If you were talking about the ceramic branch, it ends at a three foot or so shrinker.

I'm not sure, It was either ceramic or brick and it comes into the main pipe right next to one of the slides. I've never been past the the 12 ft. square tunnel going down stream from the infall, i need to go there one of these days.

Rivergate won't be doable for a while without chest waders. The Platte has been high enough that the river is part of the outfall.

We were going to take eatstoomuchjam through CP, but he decided to go to Wyoming instead.

The heavy rains today made our journey into Little Thunder amazing. The drain had also become one with it's creek, and we had to wade through the outfall. Once inside we were greeted with a freakin' waterslide! It was crazy how fast the eight or so inches of water were moving through the 6'5" RCP. If we stood in the flow, it would create standing waves that would instantly become taller than the person causing them! Most of the drain is a series of long inclines, and some of them will suddenly bear right or left. These couple of quick directional changes created a motion/gravity effect that allowed you to stand in the middle of the RCP while the water was flying by on the wall!
It was probably one of the best times I've ever had in a drain; a cross between water-world, and a sinking ship.
We're totally going back when more thunderstorms are due!

The thing i keep remembering from the few London Drains i did (Fleet, Westbourne) is that while theyre amazing, you mostly enjoy them afterwards. While i was actually done there, it stank, was nasty underfoot and kinda nervewracking. Theres a lot to be said for more sedate, yet nevertheless very cool tunnels like Titan n Rivergate.

Sweet deal tho, both of them.

I agree, but you know how expectations can ruin a trip. I know better, but I let my imagination get the best of me and it... didn't turn out quite as cool.

I may love the big systems, but the neighborhood drains will always be my favorites. Especially quirky ones like Joker's Labyrinth

Some of my first drains were like this: small-ish and not much water in a storm... could hang out there whilest its pissin down and stull be reasonably safe.
