Oldest Drain

So, a couple of friends and I went to a drain I found... there were markings left from the WPA. The Works Progress Administration was operated mostly under Roosevelt in the great depression. The date to go with it was 2-11-41.

So what's the oldest confirmable drain everyone has been in?

Was that drain in Colorado? The oldest drains I've ever been into in Denver were built in the forties as well.
That's nothing though. Ask Stoop or Siologen about the Red Barn for a good example of what I mean. Oh, and I'm not even counting water-type tunnels like the Roman aqueducts!

It's quite a bit larger actually.

The Brick Titan goes for more than 5 miles at least the size of one section of Phantom Creek (aka. Temples of Syrinx) or larger. The first part of the RBP is the size of Leviathan's RCP (I dunno what else it's called, but it's at Mississippi & Santa Fe).

Also, I must note that we haven't reached the end of the Brick Titan yet. It starts out near 38th & Brighton Blvd. and where we came out it was at near Colorado Blvd. (City Park I think.)

Read the story on it here: http://denverdrainers.org/news/?p=12

while drains normally make me want to sleep and never wake up again, this one is really neat. I love the brick work The newer concrete drains are endless back breaking pain...for me.

This drain was in the newspaper today, I was just looking through it today, and I saw an article on "City Park's" fountain construction. It had a photo of where we crawled out!

I'll get a copy online sometime soon.

Yep. It's easily the largest drain in Colorado. Even the mighty Rivergate Hollows is only about two miles long. This thing has to be at least three miles one way! And that is only the part that has been explored, it could still run for at least another mile or two after the park. Rivergate may have a few larger short runs and chambers, but is completely blown out of the water by Crystal Pepsi's thirteen or so foot Redbrick line that stays that size almost the entire length of the drain!
Imagine the construction feat that was...
Reminds me of London.

This was the drain I'd been looking for all of my life in Colorado, and to think I freakin' knew about it for so long, and did nothing!

Wonder what CP is like in a flood condition? Someone should head to the outfall and photo during a moderate storm.

From what I've noticed, it looks like it fills up about three fourths of the way in the metal covered tri-section. It was difficult for me to notice a waterline in the brick section though, but I can tell you that it looks like it would be mighty dangerous, since the thing drains quite a large section of north Denver!

From the large amount of crap that collects on this concrete divider & along the walls of the tri-section ( the size of the debris too ) looks to be quite a bit of flow...

Amazing. In C-springs, theres a few monster drains that fill up like that...
Are there many small sidepipes, or few and simply huge sub-trunks coming in?

Also, has anyone done this drain end-to-end? If so, whats at the source?

UPDATE:

We went back only to find out that there is lot more to be explored after just that trip.

I made a crappy "map" of the drain so far. Like it states, the directions and distances are really out of scale. There are plenty of other forks that are aren't really explorable or worth exploring due to size limitations.

Use this as a reference when going to explore if you want to go anywhere we have not up till now.

The major intersections we found are shown and it's more accurate further "up" the map past the City Park entrance since it was just yesterday we explored it. The two forks that we didn't explore are very large still and about 80 inches each. We as in, the draining community here should finish this quick before they seal up the construction site. Otherwise it's a minimum of like 5 miles before we even get to the places we went yesterday.

Here's an image of the first for for your pleasure.

Happy draining!

Great update! ( Nice map too! )

I'm glad to hear that you did go back, since after I didn't hear anything for awhile I began to wonder.
I'll be heading over that way soon, so I'll let you folks know what I find. Well, if I even get any farther than you did that is...

Update:

We went back earlier tonight and finished exploring the main lines.

Here's an updated map:

Along with that drain tonight, we also checked out the new Aqua Golf drain. (Recently built, where the old Aqua Golf used to be.)

Here's some photos of BT/CP:

Dave enjoying some sparkling apple cider:

Me looking rather strange, holding a knife we found down there. (Murder weapon.)

Me at the start of the Right/Right 36" RBP.

Dave at the Aqua Golf Drain:

Dates of Aqua Golf Drain:

A connection from an old RBP to the Aqua Golf drain--NOTE:This is only about a 2 and a half foot RBP, there isn't much of a scale to go off of!

We went into the new drain they constructed outside of Aqua golf which seemed pretty promising, but after a short period the drain stopped and there was a manhole at the end with a concrete wall the way. There was almost no water in the drain, and a dead end. Maybe they're not done yet?
