I find that the best time to go somewhere is to go when there would be the least amount of suspicion or witnesses. if you want to go somewhere in the day then go midday where everyone probably 25+ would be at work. otherwise go at night

Yeah Sundays are good unless the location is semi active, and then you look more suspicious. Friday nights are also generally good cause no is working then.

Sunday mornings after 1am has been prime for me, usually adjacent factories/industry is closed down or running at minimal capacity. Police are around but a lot more scant than at other times but like most people at that time of night you do tend to get stopped once in a while for a 'chat'.

My personal favorite time to go exploring in to well patrolled area's is in broad daylight during a weekday. Security patrols always seem most active on Friday nights and weekends, as that seems to be when most of the kids and vandals seem to get out and about. For the semi-active facilities, this lets me park in employee parking lots so my parked car does not stand out and draw attention. Most of these places are in plain sight of houses and offices, so a camera flash or flashlight beam after dark would give you away very quickly. As for accessing from there, I carry a camera, two small surefire flashlights, and ID. No backpacks, masks, or anything that would draw suspicion if caught. You would be surprised how many people wave, and even say hello when you go about it this way.

Another thing about weekdays during the day is that security systems tend to be disabled for the workers. This has come into play at one place. Explored it fine during a weekday, but when my friend returned on a sunday, he tripped an alarm and had to wait out police and security for a while.

go in when its safest to do so.

sometimes pre-dawn is the safest. sometimes it isnt.

its better to sit around for 2 hours waiting for light and not getting caught, they going in during the day and getting caught.

I've gone at all times of the day. I just visited my favorite state hospital last night under the cover of darkness, and everything was fine. Before demolition began at another location, i used to go mostly during the day, as there was rarely security or a police patrol. Now that demolition has begun, things have obviously changed. It all depends on each individual location's circumstances i suppose. But i agree with Blackhawk, if they're using third generation nightvision or FLIR, you better know how to run. But i typically prefer day missions as you can actually see what you're doing.

Statistical the time with the least people on the streets is between 3-4am.

I tend to agree with this, having worked some night shifts supervising sewer work crews (some places the work is best done when fewer people are flushing). Between 2 to 4 is dead, as people do not start getting up til like 5, and most night shifts end at 7. Its generally not a good idea exploring at that hour though, cause in the unlikely event you get spotted you will be that much more suspicious. And unless you are used to overnights, your serotonin levels will be whacked out, and you may not be able to react to the situation as well making it more likely for you to get caught.

I'm not a big fan of slinking around in the dark to explore sites. It's dangerous, very. You can't take pics in the dark except under very special circumstances. Most cases the dynamic range is so bad the pictures are crap as evidence by some posted here on this site.

I don't get how you have the guts to criticize photos posted here when all you post are horrid images of little girls at the fair at night (handheld at iso 1600-3200).

I don't know where you get off telling people when to go into buildings when you've never shown proof you even enter buildings, by the way you talk it doesn't seem like you do.

Some locations you can wake up late, stroll in the front door without a problem.

Others, despite what uncle blackhawk says, you need to be on the property between 3:30-5:00 AM depending on when sunrise is. That way you don't run the risk of getting seen.

If he thought outside of the box.. he would realize that there are other options than taking pictures right when you get in. Like taking a nap on the roof until the sun comes up.

Your an idiot. Fucking referencing me out of context. Nothing obscene about taking pics of people in a public place or a private one such s this where I had FULL permissions of both the fair administrators and LEO in charge.
Tripods are useless shooting people in real life street scenes.
Those girls, the carnival owner, as well as others, liked the pics too, and will have copies. The four year old's pic would have really threw you.

Vandals come at night.
Whenever your out in the the early morning hours your risk being mistaken for just that.
You have little advantage in the dark most times; the night is neutral, but not if the LEO (or surveillance cam) has FLIR or 3rd generation night vision.
Then your fucked.

Predawn and night are for the tough places, and most times isn't needed or desirable.
The use of any light gives you away, as does your body heat on a FLIR.

At least around here, I've never heard of the po-pos using FLIR or night vision. Please stop the senseless paranoia.

Most police helicopter have FLIR, it's been used for over 14 years on the Park Rangers copters in DC.
3rd night vision is in common use.
Get up to speed.

i've been face to face with wireless hunting cameras in the middle of the night and no one came after me with night vision.

not everything you read on the internet is true.

if police use a helicopter to get you out of a building there is something very wrong.

They have hand held units. A person stands out plainer then day.
As prices continue to drop they will become more common.
Even without these devices night is at best neutral; you loss as much as you gain.
No net advantage in most situations, in fact just the opposite.

I had this issue recently, there was a location in a pretty populated area, and every time I got geared up to go, there were people swarming all around the place. To top it off at the off hours, a towing company was using the location's parking lot for an impound lot.

I finally got in there the other day, turns out the best time for it was lunch time on a weekday, I guess everybody was too busy running off to run errands and to get their lunch to be hanging around this spot. The exit was a little less tactful, but turned out to be just when everybody was headed home from work, and too busy to pay any attention to me climbing out of a boarded up window.

I also like the idea of taking advantage of bad weather, here in St. John's I often get a chance to hide using the fog as cover, or going somewhere during a snowstorm while everybody stays inside, or is off on a snow day.

The majority of burglaries occur between 11pm and 3am on Friday and Saturday nights. Granted, I haven't done shit for two months now, but I usually hit places around 1am Monday morning. I've only seen one place that had a Sunday night swing shift, but the same place had people working Christmas/Xmas Eve and New Year's.

Please don't be stupid. It might piss me off so much that I have a seizure or something. I hate stupid people.

Well if you outfitted like me that IS a plus sometimes
Trouble is that is prime time for the byberry rat style vandals; cops know that around here and adjust their patrol accordingly.

Time and time again the people most likely to call the cops on you are girls between 12-17 and middle age yuppy housewives in Volvos.
To them all tripods are rifles and all people with cameras are terrorists.
Both are asleep at 3 in the AM, so maybe there is some merit to your plan after all...
at least until you step into that open manhole that you smell only after the plunge...
when you regain consciousness.

Worse if there are ANY light leaks in the place your strobing, you stick out like a firefly at a Boyscout lightbug hunting contest.
So you still need to wait for day break if it's not boarded up well, or if you want some daylight shots.
